Dingy motor

I'll be a voice in favor of the Honda 2.3 - I originally had a Yamaha 4 - which was heavy and difficult to mount on the dinghy especially if any wakes or waves were moving the boat. The Honda - at 30 lbs, is so much easier to attach and remove.

It's that 30lbs to replicate my 3.3 Mercury that I'm looking for. The air cooling of the Honda is certainly a big attraction but unfortunately that centrifugal clutch is a dealbreaker. Many thanks for your comments however.

For the RIB dinghy that comes with Ranger and Cutwater boats, is the short shaft the best bet? Interested in getting the Suzuki 2.5 model. Does this motor need to be stored upright or can it be laid on its side?

The Suzuki 2.5 HP is fine stored vertically. Vertical storage is preferable. It can also be stored short term laying on its side - IF you follow the instructions printed on the engine and store it laying down on the correct side. I haven’t memorized which side that is, I just read the instructions when I need to store it horizontally.

Do you have the short or long shaft version?

I have a short shaft for use with our fiberglass hull RIB. The correct side to lay the Suzuki engine down is the side with the tiller/throttle being down. I added info to my prior post, please reread it.
