Hello,
We used the defrosters (defoggers) for the first time last November in our 2016 R31 when the rain moved in and the windows quickly fogged up. The defrosters did not work very well at all ... we had to use a dish towel to keep wiping the inside of the windows. There was definitely no heat coming from the defrosters. My question is, should the defrost air be heated (is there a heating element in those defrosters)?

Thanks
Dave Z

Hi, as far as I know, those are fans only (no heat). However, they seem to do the job pretty well.

Ours have no heat either. Work pretty well. We use Fog-X regularly.

We added a plug in 12 volt defroster that attaches with a suction cup. Combined with the overhead fan units it does a really good job. They are available at any automotive parts store.

Hello Dave,

There is no heating element in the overhead fans. What I do is either turn on the cabin heater or the Webasto if your boat is equipped with one. Turning on heat in the cabin tends to help the overhead fans.

Thanks for the replies.

Its good to know (I guess) that we don't have broken defrost heaters.

We did have cabin heat on, and maybe after a while (30 minutes?) the cabin air would have been warm enough to help with the defrosting. But meanwhile we dare not go faster than five knots for fear of not seeing floating logs between wiping the windows.

I didn't think to run both the diesel and engine heat systems together. I'll do that next time. Or better yet, turn on the diesel heat in advance if rain looks likely.

Including an electric heating element in a defrost fan doesn't seem too high tech. I think it would be a good idea if Ranger could find a heated defrost fan supplier, for safety/visibility reasons.

Thanks
Dave Z
