My galley sink drain has become a bit clogged, probably with food bits that made it past the strainer. Is it safe to pour drain-o or a similar product down the drain, or will that damage any of the downstream plumbing?

I wouldn’t use Drano as my first choice. There’s a product called Happy Campers that we use in our boat and RV to fix slow drains and treat the black water tank. It’s organic, not harmful to pipes or the environment. We put some down the slow running drains and let it work a while then flush with hot water. You might also use some hot vinegar down the drain. Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Karl

I would worry about Drano, because the drain just spills overboard and Drano is so strong that it couldn't be good for the paint or environment. Also, given the simple spillover design, I'm not sure it would even be effective; it might just pour through.

Personally I'd try boiling water first, after some kind of simple auger poked carefully down the drain (such as a large zip tie). But I see the Boat Galley has some other ideas, too: https://theboatgalley.com/slow-stopped-galley-drain/

Good luck!

We've plugged ours a few times with bits and pieces. I have a small shop vac on board I use. I just hold the vac hose in the drain crate in the sink and it usually does the trick.

Thanks for the tips, will try the sink snake from Amazon!
