Just averted what could have been a real drag - I was checking oil level and noticed some black crud toward the front of the engine on the right side down near the motor mount. Upon closer look I found the raw water cooling hose had been drooping down and touching the water pump pulley. The friction had worn through some of the rubber, but not enough to cut all the way. I tie-wrapped the hose up out of the way. I truly thank The Lord for showing me this or it would've been a big hassle somewhere down the Tenn-Tom in the middle of nowhere. I ordered some self-annealing Rescue Tape right away and will wrap the worn area real good just as a precaution.

All the raw water hoses are clear, reinforced type. Black rubber hoses carry engine coolant. The hose to which you refer probable connects to the heating cool inside the water heater. Connections carry on to the bus heater then back to the engine. If there is any significant wear, the hose should be replaced.

I agree its prudent to go ahead and replace the hose. I'll have one ordered and onhand when we get to the dealer where we bought it. I can't believe this "design" - there should have been more protection in my opinion. I'm just glad it didn't wear through when we were miles away from help with big tows on the river. Right now I am breathing a sigh of relief at that!
