For those of you using the Duracell G31 batteries for your house and thruster, how have they worked out for you. Thinking real hard about using them when I replace my current bank later this summer. Also thinking of going with the Optima Blue for the starting battery.

Thanks,

Hi Bob,

I installed (4) brand new Duracell Group 31 AGM’s in my 2015 Cutwater 28 in May. So far, so good! We spend a lot of time on the hook, and after a night and 1/2 day running the fridge, lights, electric flush head, pumps, etc., the house bank still showed 12.47 volts.

I researched them quite a bit before purchasing on other boating forums like “The Hull Truth”. All good feedback. I use one for my main engine start as well. Fourth one is thrusters/NexGen generator start.

Bought mine at Batteries and Bulbs, but only because Sams Club was out of stock. Can be had there for $80-$90 less per battery than at Batteries and Bulbs.

Good luck!

I use them exclusively on my boats. I also use them for my 24v Sump pump system in the house. Mostly bought at Sam's Club, but when stock is low I will grab one at Batteries Plus.

I use them for my Engine Start as well and a pair for a trolling motor.
They have lasted just as long as any other battery I have bought at 1/2 the price.

FYI, They seem very hard to get in the GR31 & GR27 size lately. I have heard that batteries are on the list of items with supply chain issues.

Roam had four Duracell AGM Group 31 batteries installed about two and a half years ago. As other have noted, they were purchased from Sam's Club for about $175 each.

So far so good, but AGM batteries should last much longer if they are not discharged below 50%, so the "test" is far from over.

I bought four of the Duracell AGM's at Sam's Club about 6 weeks ago. So far so good.

Installed 4 Duracell 31s from Sams 4 years ago. Fine so far. Factory Chinese UPCs ones were shot in 4 years. Durcells are made in USA by East Penn. We replaced thruster and engine ones 2-1/2 years ago. Had problems with engine one until I discovered stainless studs did not provide full current! Added Battery post to stud adaptors and work fine now.

Thanks everyone for chiming in. My local Batteries Plus is flush with the Duracells. I'm getting 5 (thruster and house) and a Optima Blue Top for the starting battery.

Bob,
Why use the Duracell for the thruster over the Optima?
As I understand the battery for the thruster+windlass function, it’s to power a short duration high amperage draw. More like a engine starter battery than a house battery.

Going with Kevin Lamont's recommendation with regard to the battery alignment for the house and thrusters. I haven't read the specs on the windlass and thrusters.
