Howdy! “New” Cutwater 24 owner here and sitting in Fossil bay on Sucia island- went to fire up the bbq for a very quick char on some already cooked chicken sausages and as I was using the grill a loud beeping noise came from the inverted switch. I am assuming this meant “turn me off” so I did. Is the inverter designed to be able to use the grill long enough for. A quick meal? Or is is shire power only? If this is the case, would have been way better to just mount a propane grill- just my 2c!! Any help appreciated....Thanks!!

You need to check the wattage capacity of your inverter with the wattage of your grill. I highly suspect that the grill is pulling more power than the inverter can handle. I am not sure what inverter you have, but the beeping sound could be either to large a draw warning or because you were pulling a max draw the batteries were getting low. If your inverter is capable of handling the draw I would suggest that you start your engine before using the grill. A large draw from the batteries will drain them quickly and with the engine running you will have the alternator helping to charge while you are sucking power. Your other choice is a portable generator, hence shore power, or a propane grill.

If your electric grill is anything like what I have on my 2018 R27 OB model it should only be used when on shore power.... at least that is the advice given to me by RT. Maybe a generator could handle it but I sure would not run it through the Inverter.

I hope you did not damage anything.

We have the typical Kenyon alcohol/electric stove similar to the one we have on our R25SC? The single burner model is 61144. I know you are are talking about a BBQ but maybe the rating is similar. If so, this is not wired to run on inverter on our boat, only shore power. That and the water heater are just too much load. The small coffee maker plugged in to an outlet and the microwave will work OK but I always start the engine even for those. If I don't the voltage gets pulled down to the point where I hear the alarm that you are experiencing.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the replies! Steak and shrimp on the wire and cold sandwiches out on the hook... I’ll explain this to the Admiral....

Hello Acadwell,

The inverters on all of our models are only intended for operation of the microwave and 110V outlets. If looking to use the aft grill without shore power, I would recommend carrying a small portable generator. You could then also use it for powering the water heater and battery charger if needed. The MAGMA propane BBQ is another popular option for many of our boats for grilling away from the dock.

Thank you,

-Tim
