I have a 2018 29S Ranger Tug. When I plug into shore power I cannot get one of the panels powered that controls the outlets and microwave. The other panels all light up. I have a picture but not sure how to put in TugNut post. The battery bank 2 is low showing under 10 volts but thinking this should not impact the panel when plugged into shore power should it?

Also should mention the inverter just reads r2.0 when turned on.

I had the same issue and it was the inverter/charger that died.

Check out my posts or do a search and you will finds lots of info on the topic.

Mike

Thanks Mike. What did you replace yours with?

I replaced with the same Kisae inverter/charger that came with the boat.

I did take the opportunity to move its location to hopefully prevent it from getting wet. After investigation, I kept it in the same starboard locker but moved it forward past the battery and pump to the cabin bulkhead.

Voltage under 10V shouldn't cause the inverter/charger or the AC panel not to work.

However, a voltage of 9.5V or lower and the ACR will not open, assuming your charger/inverter was working and bank 2 is your engine battery (it is on the R31 I think) and your charger was going to bank 1 (house), it wouldn't open up to charge your engine battery.

You'll need to charge that up with a separate trickle charger or use the engine to get that back working. You could use the parallel switch but do be careful as the batteries will try to equalize between the banks, and it will be a lot of current.

Also my Kisae bit the dust about a month ago, and I switched to a Victron. It seems there are a lot of Kisae failures on this forum, and it doesn't seem like it's a good candidate for replacement, despite it being a bit easier to swap the same thing in/out.

Which victron did you get?

Thanks all for the replies. Is this an easy install or should I have a tech install? Confirming the unit below for the Ranger Tug R29S 2018.

Fisheries has this in stock now.
VICTRON ENERGY
MultiPlus-II 12/3000/120-50 2x120V Inverter/Charger
SKU: 1028168 Item ID: VIC PMP122305100

Let me know how it goes! I'm in the process of choosing a new inverter charger and I'm eyeing that one.

It's an easy job if you understand the electrical system on the boat, it is a positive/negative connection for the 12V charging side (plus chassis ground), and 2x 120V connections (shore power in and inverter power out) with each of those connections being 3 wires (hot/neutral/ground). If none of those things make sense to you then you should probably get a tech, if you understood what I just said and you can match those wires from the Kisae to pinout on the Victron then it's a DIY job for you.

It's really up to what you've done before on your boat.

Edit/ Also if you get the MultiPlus-II 12/3000/120-50 2x120V Inverter/Charger then you need to make sure you adjust it to 30amp draw (as it can draw 50amps) before you trip your main ELCI breaker on the boat. You'll need some controller to do this, purchased separately of course 🙂

Excellent Watson! I will give it a try. Thx!

I was curious about the 30a vs 50a and how that is handled. Anyone?

I don't know what part you're asking about here. This inverter/charger can run at 50amps if the shore connection COULD supply that. Our boats CANNOT supply this, and attempting to draw 50amps will cause the boat's main ELCI to blow. Just set the inverter at 30amps, and everything will be fine. I've used the Victron desktop application that disables the amperage adjustment via the controller or Bluetooth app to prevent anyone from accidentally doing this.

I got the following because it was in stock at Fisheries and was able to get it installed to continue my week on the boat. I was down for for less than 24 hours

https://www.victronenergy.com/inverters ... ii-2x-120v

If I were to wait I would get the following with one @ 3000VA

https://www.victronenergy.com/inverters ... ltiplus-ii

I just got the one watson said he would get if he had the time to wait. I'll be installing it this weekend!

Finished the install. Easy, peasy.

Did you install the VE.Bus Smart Dongle on it?

Nice! Did you also install the screen module as well?
