Just checking to see what other people are paying for their electrical use while in storage or moored per month. I pay a $10 flat fee + kw usage. I plugged it in for the first time and I just received a bill for $33 for 300kw of power. I only have the battery charger on + a little fan. When I had this combination on at the house my bill went up by $1/mo. There are 2 large boats next to me and maybe they read the wrong boat, I hope. I am not pleased with this at all!

For the past year at my Edmonds marina the lowest monthly Electric Use bill was $5.35 and the highest was $7.69. They also invoice a flat monthly $5 fee for providing electricity at the dock side.

The highest KwH use in past 12 months was 92 KwH one month.

The only electric devices that use electricity constantly or frequently in our boat when it's moored in its slip are

a) A WM de-humidifier
b) Battery charger
c) Refrigerator (set on #2)

My monthly invoice states the starting and ending electric meter readings.

During cold months if I visit the boat I will run a small electric heater to keep me warm as I go about my business.

So my highest monthly bill for electricity use in past year was $7.69 + $5 = $12.69

If your bill states meter reading then check those readings against what you see on your meter.

Of course, while the boat is unattended anyone could plug into your dock side power pole and consume 'your' electricity. Hopefully, that's not the case for you.

Have you discussed this with your Marina Operations and/or billing office ?

If this is your first bill, I wonder if somehow you're paying for the previous boat owner's electricity use in your slip !!!????

What is the stated wattage draw of the fan you mention you run continuously ?
Do you run your Refrigerator on a high-cool setting ?

Hi Barry

Just got the bill yesterday, so will talk to them tomorrow as they are not open on the weekends. I run the same WM unit you are running and the refer is off. The solar panel is also working which should cut down the power draw even more, even on an overcast day it is pulling in 7amps, the other day when it was sunny it show 13amps. Obviously something is very amiss.

Your post got me curious about my usage. The past three months I used 150, 203, and 150 kwh. I run the battery charger and two de-humidifiers. I also run an electric heater when I am down on the boat which is not that many hours (say 10 per month). I am in a boat house and also have to run a night light (15w) that seems to stay on in our darker days constantly. Since I am in the boat house I don't get much gain from my solar panel. We are separately metered. Our "cheap" Northwest power runs my $25-$31 per month.

At my Edmonds Marina the current charge for electricity is $0.0854 / KwH. It does vary slightly from month to month. This KwH cost rate is very similar to what I pay for my house electricity use. I live in Edmonds.

The Edmonds Marina is in Snohomish County and is served by Snohomish County PUD for its electricity use.

Check with your marina operations Dept to find out what their KwH rates are. Also note if they charge a basic delivery cost even if your use were to be 0 KwH.

Our facility in Anacortes bills us at .11/Kwh. I have sent off an email and phone message and waiting for response.
