I’m looking for recommendations for a good marine electrician in Anacortes.
I want to hire someone to install a solar panel and controller on my ranger tug.if you know a good shop to call, I’d appreciate the lead

Installing a solar panel and controller is one of the easier DIY projects on the boat. Lots of great information, wiring diagrams, BOM, photos and equipment recommendations on this site. Tools needed are pretty common too. Only took me a couple of hours to install once I had collected all the parts! About $600 for a 180 watt system with MPPT controller.

Photos in my album as well.

PS: Start to finish my install was 6 hours and I work really, really slow. Two hours to mount panel on sports rack. Two hours to run wire to MPPT controller and two hours to run wire from MPPT controller to house battery. I don’t know nuthin about “electrisicals” but can run wire from point A to point B to point C. The specialized tools needed are just good wire cutters/strippers and good crimpers.

When I first saw this post, I did not want to say anything. But yes, its an easy job. Watch some u-tubes on this, ask the seller of the solar equipment questions. Its not that hard, the hardest part I think is mounting the panel and that not very hard at all.

Good luck!

Ernie, I agree that installing this yourself is easy, I did mine without any major difficulty. If you want to pay someone I would call Marine Service Center 360-293-8200. I have been very happy with them and I know they do some electrical work. Brooke should be able to figure out who to send, if not speak to Brent. They are located in Anacortes.

Thanks for the input and recommendations
See you on the water
