I was chatting with a long time fisherman and he mentioned a product called Splash Zone that he always kept on board in case of a thru hull leak due to component failure, or a hull leak from hitting a rock.

While searching for the above, I found Stay Afloat, which may be easier to use since it is not a two component system

I intend to talk to any rescue boat folks I see to get their opinion as to the better product. It sure does seem, literally, like it could be a life saver. And cheap insurance. Does anyone have any experience with this stuff (or equivalent)?

I carry Stay Afloat in my emergency box. I have never had to use it so I can’t comment on its effectiveness. In an emergency I don’t think I would want to be mixing epoxies. I also carry wood and rubber plugs.

I have used Splash Zone and it is very easy to mix and use. It is like a putty which you roll the two parts together until the color is uniform, you then press it in place and it will stick to even a wet surface. Many years ago I had a Columbia 30 sail boat which developed a hull crack ahead of the rudder shaft. The crack was caused by heavy loading of the rudder in ugly seas. After consulting with two boat yards and obtaining estimates to repair the crack (astronomical cost) I elected to try Splash Zone on the crack. The boat never leaked another drop of water and I owned it for at least ten years and sailed it hard, Splash Zone works.

How about this for a price difference from Amazon.ca. It’s worth me taking a trip across the border. https://www.amazon.ca/Pettit-Paint-Spla ... =8-1-fkmr2
