Emergency Tiller?

On our previous sailboats we have had an Emergency tiller.
I was reading in Passagemaker magazine may/june 2026 an article entitle "When the boat wont listen"
Interesting article about planning for loss of steering and engine control.
The author Bob Arrington, mentions Emergency tiler, manual overide on transmission, to take the engine out of gear etc.
I had not thought of this with our Cutwater 30, has anyone know of an emergency tiller, or has anyone had these problems or practices?
Am I overthinking this?

Yes, you're overthinking it.
Manual override of the transmission is easy, just flip the lever that the transmission cable is attached to.
Loss of hydraulic steering: secure the rudder in the midship position, steer with the bow thruster.

I used to sail offshore as well so have the same mindset. No idea what would be involved on the cutwater but configuring and emergency tiller on my ranger would take quite a bit of work. An auxiliary kicker is my solution. Unless you're running offshore or make long crossings it's not worth the worry.
