I have a mystery that I need some guidance on! I was doing maintenance yesterday (coolant flush, raw water flush, engine anodes, etc.), and it's my first time doing these items since I got the boat a year ago. Coolant and raw water flush were no problem. However, I was following the directions in the operator's manual that state there are two engine anodes, one on the intercooler and one on the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger one is a b**** to get at and uses a square drive, but other than that no problem. The intercooler one... just is NOT THERE. There's no fitting, no nothing. Did Volvo have different variants of this engine that don't always have the intercooler anode??

Thank you. I have to assume the same of the D6-435 in my CW as well. The fitting is simply not there on the intercooler anode where it states it would be in the manual.

Hi DB,
Same engine, only has one anode ,same location. Indeed a pain to change,I have to do between 50-75 hours depending on use and water temp.

Thanks G! Unaware if mine was ever replaced prior to me but will be good to monitor. My boat stays in fresh water, but I go to the salt very often.

I recently came home from an AGLCA meeting in Ft. Myers where I attended a diesel engine maintenance session. Engine Anodes came up and I was bewildered. In my year owning my 2017 R25SC I’d never heard of these as a maintenance item. I just checked my D3 and could t find the rascals anywhere. I saw the post about them being discontinued on the 2015 D4 engine. I’d this also the case for the D3 or do I need to keep hunting? Chris

No engine anodes on my 2014 D3-200. I think you are safe!

I had the same issue searching for anodes on my 2016 (made in 2015) D4-260. I contacted the factory and was told that anodes were phased out sometime during that production year, but couldn't tell me if I had anodes even with the serial number. Apprently VP was changing heat exchanger and oil cooler parts over to plastics, and phased out the anodes as the existing metal parts stock was used up in the production run.
