I noticed the engine exhaust through-hull on our boat is becoming corroded and will need to be replaced in the near future. Is this something the "average" boat owner can accomplish, or is it a job for a marine repair facility?

On our R-29 some rust shows up on the exhaust through hull. We use Ospho (mild phosphoric acid spray) at haul out and it removes the rust. I am not sure the material of construction on your model is the same but you might want to try it. Ladybug, Too stays in the salt water except when we get out of dodge at hurricane time. Seems that 50% of all hurricanes entering the Gulf of Mexico end up affecting Pensacola, Florida.

On the R-29, keep a watch on the bolts that hold the exterior exhaust flange on. I recently helped an R-29 owner who was having his bilge fill way too often. After an extensive search by me and others we discovered that the bolts on the exhaust flange actually had deteriorated through. It could have been a sinking disaster if we did not catch it when we did. I am not sure if this was an isolated case or a periodic maintenance item, but checking all of your thru hull connections every once in a while can't hurt.
