As the summer comes to an end up here in the Northeast I am starting end of season tasks. I replaced my engine zincs yesterday and as others have been surprised, so was I to find one half way gone and the other totally gone. I replaced two zincs on the engine and I just want to make sure there are no others. Can anyone confirm that there are only two related to the engine?

The parts list for the 4BY2 on the home page shows 6 Zincs

Propeller
Thruster
Trim Tab
Mixing Elbow
Generator
Air Cooler Engine

I would think that the two that go in the engine would be the Mixing Elbow and the Air Cooler one. The factory should confirm this though.

I always keep lots of extra engine zincs on board. I like to inspect them while hanging on the hook on a Sunday morning every so often. If you do check them while in the water make sure you close your seacock.
When any zinc you have is at 50% it needs to be changed. It is easy maintenance and just part of boat ownership.

I do my engine zincs about three times a year and all the others twice a year. I sit in fresh water for five months in the summer and use it all winter in salt but pull it out, flush it out and store it after ever use in salt.

There are two zincs on a 4BY. The owner's and repair manuals show three, but the third is for an optional "high rise" elbow extension which our boats do not have. Don't forget to replace the generator zinc (if u have one) there's a printed arrow on the sea water exchange pointing at it to help u find it.
