I've trying to figure out if the 2017 D4 in a C28 has any engine zincs. I definetly know there isn't one on the heat exchanger. There is one shown on the charge air cooler (cac) but I cannot find the cac . Any help in locating the cac or if there is an anode on this model would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

My 2016 C28 with Volvo D4 260 has an anode on the heat exchanger. It is located on the bottom forward end, very close to the belt. I haven't found one on the charge air cooler.

I have a 2017 CW28. Told by the factory that later D4's do not have engine zincs.

RT told me also that my 2019 R29 CB's D4 300 HP engine does not have anodes.

Thank you all for replying.
The engine I have is a D4-260I-F, latest I can find on parts website with schematics is 260I-E, which shows an anode in the picture but doesn't show it on their parts list.
I'm sure there isn't one on the heat exchanger, I've had my hands all over both end caps and there's nothing there. I traced the air from the air filter to the turbo and the only thing coming out or in is a 1/4" inside diameter hose which I loose track of forward, halfway along the block. But I can't imagine that small of a hose could be leading to a charge air cooler. So I'm thinking there isn't a charge air cooler and that there are no zincs/anodes on the engine. The only thing that still bothers me is that when it was serviced (by certified dealer) last year they show an anode being installed. I'm going with the idea of no anodes until or if dealer proves I'm wrong.

Any chance the factory could chime in on this subject?

Is this ask the factory? Andrew Ralf anybody.

I have the same engine in my C28, and have been told there are no engine anodes. Just the generator, prop, and thrusters.

First, i know nothing about the D4 260 admittedly. But i do see several you tube videos showing how to change zincs on some of the production variations of this motor. Might want watch them to at least see where they were before they decided they were no longer needed. Manual seems to suggest are on props but not engine. Since RT did not manufacture the engine they may be hesitant to answer. I find youtube and mfg manual online search helpful when looking for quick answers.

Thanks Matty true, that they may be hesitant, but they should have direct numbers to the manufacturer (Volvo Penta) that will get them the answer in minutes. I've spent tens of hours researching this, both in the hold and on the internet. From looking at all the various engine schematics I know one letter difference can change some components, and on my engine they show the anode then have a note that it may not be there. The devil is in the details is a perfect saying for this question.
