We are in the process of purchasing a 2009 R25 currently in Canada and bringing her home to the USA. As I read through the customs requirements they seem, at first glance, to be simple. Pleasure boats are free of duty thanks to NAFTA.
First document you need a bill of sale. OK, we will have that!
Second, you need a valid EPA Certificate of Conformity for the engine AND the engine has to have a US EPA emission control label in English.
Hmmm, where are those? Is there a US EPA label on all the Tug engines? And if so, where would we find that label on the Yanmar 150 HP diesel? Does your Owners documentation contain the EPA Certificate of Conformity for the engine?
I left a message with the Ranger factory but haven't had a reply yet. Should I be contacting Yanmar for this documentation?
Advice greatly appreciated! The clock is ticking!

Albert, I doubt this will be of much help as I have a MY 2009 R25 Classic with the Cummins 150. My EPA Certificate of Conformity came in the engine packet as a separate document. I do not think there is a specific EPA label on the engine unless the conformity number is stamped on the engine data plate or label on ECM, which it well may be.

Call the factory.
Somewhere in my documents I vaguely remember seeing something that was about emissions certified.
Returning a US built boat that conformed at the time of manufacture may not get that close a scrutiny - or may..
But having been all over my boat/engine many times for various reasons I can attest there is no decal of conformity affixed to the engine.

I would approach this in three ways....

1) Contact Ranger Tugs for their advice (you've already done this), but maybe a phone call as a follow up is required.

2) Contact Yanmar Customer Service for their help in securing the certificate. If you don't have the original engine docs from previous owner maybe Yanmar will re-issue them to you.

3) Contact your State DOV Dept for their advice. They may waive the requirement or at least inform you how others may have obtained the necessary paper work.

FYI...
I just checked labels on my 2016 R-21EC's Volvo Penta D1-30 engine and there's a label that states the engine meets the Emissions requirements and shows an associated legal code.

Also, in my packet of Engine documentation there's a leaflet all about Emissions.

Progress!

Yanmar USA sent me a copy of the EPA Certification letter with a diagram of where the EPA label on the engine should be. It's under the engine cover next to the Yanmar data plates.

I added a photo of the Yanmar diagram to my album for those interested. The EPA label is in yellow in the diagram.
