Hi all,

I am very enticed by the Ranger Tugs range of boats, and would like to know if anyone has experience from importing a 'tug' to Europe? I live in Sweden and would really love to see a 31-CB in my ownership... But contact with the factory indicates they have no resources to sell to Europe. So if anyone has experience of importing a tug to Europe or if there are any dealers who can assist, I would very much appreciate assistance and advice.

On a side note, I think the climate on Scandinavia is very similar to Northern US and Canada, and thus this type of boat would be very popular in this part of the world. Maybe there is an opportunity to open manufacturing in this part of the world too?

Happy boating!

Cheers,
~Mike

Still working on the details. Shipping is the easy part.

Taxes are the concern. Fees and permits look reasonable, but there is a substantial tax if the boat remains in country over 90 days and again at the 180 day mark. (We are talking France and the EU) This is prelim info as I'm still working on the details, looking at March-April 2019 or 2020.

I will update as I have details.

Thanks for the responses. I will update on any findings and how we decide to proceed.

However, I was just made aware that the EU imposes a 25% additional tax on import of boats from the US, for recreational purposes... Not sure if this will be worth while, sadly.

Yep, the "Import" tax is a game changer for shipping the Tug to France for temporary use (90 days). I understand it kicks in after 90 days and again at 180 days.

Just a quick update: I have unfortunately decided to not proceed with trying to import a Ranger Tug to Europe. I received confirmation from our local Customs Authority that the EU *does* impose an added 25% 'punishment fee' on certain goods from the US. And motor boats are in the current scope. That's an additional 25% on top of the sum of the price, the Customs fee of 1,7% and the VAT of 25%. So we actually need to pay taxes on taxes.

The only good news is that there *is* a dealer that is located on this side of the pond at least, in Norway.

So the order will have to wait at least until the EU and US come to terms regarding Customs Fees....

I have a call into Donald, he's working on it!

Are the various taxes applicable only to new boats ?

If the boat is used (2nd hand) would the taxes be less I wonder ?

If a used (2nd hand) boat is imported from U.S. to Sweden/Norway for example, would taxes be waived so long as boat is not sold within first 3 years ? I ask this as some years ago I was looking into taking a car to UK/EU and as I recall the taxes were waived so long as the car was not sold within a 3 yr period after being imported.
