Our R25SC - d3 150 is now 6 years old and has about 570 hours on it. I have never removed the exhaust and checked it for corrosion and was thinking about doing it this year when doing the fall maintenance. What experience do others have with these components? How frequently have you checked or changed them?

Thanks

Hi Dave,

A couple years ago (6 years on the boat) I pulled all the batteries and inspected the exhaust thru hull from the interior of the boat and found signs rust stains from a small amount of water coming in through the bolt holes. I pulled one of the bolts and found corrosion under the bolt head. I decided to replace all the bolts with generous 5200 bedding. The thru hole fitting itself was in good shape and would have been near impossible to remove so I left it. I also added a bonding wire to the thru hole which was missing. I inspected the exhaust hose with a borescope and found no issues. I also checked the stainless exhaust riser and found no issues.

Hi Dave,

Unlike Curt's exhaust port yours is probably like mine with a large nut on the back of the port inside the hull. I would check it for any corrosion and see if it is bonded to your overall bonding system. If corroded, I would take it apart (big pain) and assure its structure is not diminished. The Ranger factory for some reason bonded all under warter metals except for the exhaust port on my boat. I understand that this is how many Rangers were built. Don't know why, however it is easy to bond with a clamp around the port with a wire from the clamp to the bonding system.
