Extended sunshade/awning

I didn't get any responses to my previous questions about the R23--I'll try a new tack.

Has anyone used the extended sunshade made from Phifertex, it appears, and attached to two poles off the stern?

If so, what has been your experience?

I got a set of the two-piece SS poles and fabric from my dealer when I committed to the boat. I believe they were left-over, but little-used, from a larger tug. When the boat was being built, Ranger agreed to not install the rod holders, but give them to me in a box. This way I could install them so that the poles, when inserted, would clear the rails. I then fabricated a forward attachment from 1"x1" aluminum extrusion that accepts the "rope" sewn in the fabric, mounted above the cabin and behind the stack. It works very well (and looks great!) except in windy conditions, where it will flap up/down in the middle. I've mitigated this to a large degree by tying a light line from a grommet at the mid-points of the sides to the rails. I'll post some images if I can sort that process out, or if you'd like, PM your email address.

Our 21EC has the Bimini at the rear which most of the time is excellent. However for sleeping over night to keep heavy dew away or when raining we have a lightweight ripstop nylon cover with about 10 tie downs. The cover is VERY strong and is made for trekking and high winds. We can put it up in a couple of minutes and pack away in same time. Covers half the Swim platform and half the Main cabin. Works a treat. Never has a problem. Also allows a second person to sleep in the back where it is easy to set up a second good sized bed. Cost about USD250.
