Hello,
I have a 2009 R25 classic. I have two VHF Radios on board; Standard Horizon GX2200 and Standard Horizon GX1500s. I have an external broadcasting speaker on the Radar Mast. I can't figure out how to use the PA system for the external speaker on the mast. I've looked at both user manuals and I'm not sure I have the tech knowledge to figure it out. It appears that everything is wired correctly, as there is a set of wires coming out of the speaker and disappearing into the boat. Any ideas of how to make it work or is there a series of moves I have to make on one or the other of the two systems I have on board. I feel as if it's an easy thing to do, or at least it seems like it should be; like a button that has PA on it. I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Thank you.

Kevin, I don't think the 1500 series has a hailer feature, at least my did not so I upgraded to the 2000, on page 41 of the manual - press one of the soft keys, then press the (PA/FOG) soft key, note the next soft key may have to be pressed to see the pa/fog soft key if the soft keys have not Ben customized.
Rotate the CH knob to select "PA" then press the select soft key. Rotate the CH knob to control the AF output level 0-30 watts.
The fog horn is a little whimsy sounding but workers great.
P.S. make sure the speaker is attached to the back of the radio.
Good luck Bob

Hi Bob,
I tried it and got to the point where the pa and fog horn worked but nothing coming out of the external mast loud speaker. I guess I'll try to find continuity from the wires at the loud speaker back to the radio. Has anyone else experienced this.
I find it hard to believe the pa speaker was part of the original design without standard connection; ie installing a head without a way expel waste :lol, unless it is after market. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
Kevin

Kevin, I would run a wire from the back of the radio out the window and up to the speaker and see if it works! Just for your info it is a after market upgrade! Bob

Great! Got it Bob! I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the tips. Kevin
