Extra "office" space in a r27

I am posting this here even so it is not a modification but a repurposing of a particular area on the boat.

As you can see in pictures of the r27 there are two rectangular pieces between the v-berth sleeping quarters. One slides in an upper "track" while the lower sits in a lower track. If one slides the lower piece forward and the upper piece towards the stern one has a neat seat in which, facing back wards, one can use the upper rectangular piece as a table while the feet can stretch out underneath. The v-berth and forward piece provide a nice support for the back or sides with perhaps some small pillows. I found it rather comfortable, for my size, to work on a computer in this area. Much more comfortable then using the seat in the midship berth, which I actually removed and replaced with a folding camping chair from rei, reusable in the cockpit.
My credo on a small boat is to have multipurpose functionality to save space and weight.

A good idea for those in need. On our 25 we long since "re-purposed" that area as storage. There's never enough shelf space and that's' a nice one. Crates on the deck and on the shelf. You can fit a lot of stuff in there.

Hi, do you have any pictures of how you re-purposed the mid cabin into storage space? Did you remove the nav table? If so, suggestions on how to do that?

We pulled out the mattress and the chair setup. Chiseled off the hardwood block the chair was mounted to and use the area for storage. We use the dinette area as our office-computer platform. I wonder how many people that own R-27's really use that little office space as an office and mid berth?

Like you Dave we also took out the mattress and chair in the cave and chiseled out the mouse fur covered wood block. We had a louvered door installed below the microwave, that matched the other cabin louvered doors, for easier access to the cave dead space. We bought several drawer containers from Bed Bath n Beyond and placed in the cave entrance for additional storage and three low profile open storage containers to store non perishables in that we access from the louvered door below the microwave. For us it's a much more usability of space.
