Thinking of taking delivery of a new 2020 (31CB) in the spring. Is the 2 days with the factory rep worth the time (4 days - 2 travel and 2 with the boat) and expense?

It depends on how good your selling dealer is with doing the delivery. Some dealers are excellent at doing the delivery, some are not. I wish I had done the factory delivery.

If you're coming over to Washington to do the official Factory Delivery with Ranger...Yes! Absolutely worth it. Every boat is different, you'll learn so much more with the Ranger guys than you would on your own. They'll spend as much time with you as you need. Tim and Kenny did our two days of training last summer, they were a lot of fun (everyone at Ranger is fantastic). The can also take care of any little issues that are found during the training on the spot.

Our last boat was a SeaRay, the dealer handed us the keys and said 'Have Fun'. Nothing beyond that.

So yes, do the Factory Delivery. Spend a week or two out here and play in our waters.

I totally agree with Flagship. Jackie and I did our factory delivery in August 2018 and it was awesome. Tim and Kenny did our training, too, and having their expertise and experience for 2 days allowed us to leave with all of our questions answered (and we had a lot, primarily because we had 10 months to wait!). Also, having the factory take care of the few material issues we found during delivery prior to shipping the boat to the east coast was very convenient. We enjoyed going to the office and meeting many of the Ranger Tugs team that we had been working with during the planning and delivery process - it was nice to put names with faces and it makes future follow ups easier, in my opinion. Finally, we figured we would likely not return to the Puget Sound area with the same boat, so we took advantage of the trip to spend time after the delivery training cruising the area. The whole experience was worth every effort and expense to make it happen.

If you pick up the boat in PNW, factory delivery with RT staff is the way to go.
We’ve been boating a long time so we only worked with Tom for about half a day, and it was time we’ll spent. ( my biggest takeaway I still carry: ( idle fwd and idle rev during docking is the best move)
They’re pretty chill and flexi
You’ll get the orientation you want from them
We are one of the lucky ones that have had zero defects on our boat for our first two years ,so most of my contact with the factory has been casual and very positive
Enjoy your new toy

The expense you refer to for the 2-day Factory Delivery program pales in comparison to the overall cost of the R31 CB. I strongly advice you think seriously about doing it.

I've owned 4 RT models and yes, I do live close to the RT factories in the Seattle area. For each purchase I've had the 2-day delivery experience. It's well worth it IMO.

For my last purchase (the R29 CB NW Edition last March) I had Ivan and Tim for the 2-days. I can tell you without going into details that having Ivan for the 1st day was absolutely necessary for resolving quite a serious issue we encountered. It was resolved temporarily during the 1st day and later within next 2 weeks it was completely resolved. The 2nd day was with Tim on the water primarily and it was absolutely worth while. For me, each RT model has its own idiosyncrasies and having the RT 2-day experience avoided me having the wrong assumptions about how the individual models are operated.

I recall Ivan giving me various tips on how to clean & maintain the shower sump & filter and the fresh water filter system which would have caused me to have called into RT for help later on.

Do the 2-day Factory Delivery... good luck.

Ditto to the general sentiments expressed. Fully worth it! We did it on our R-27 6 yrs ago. Wasn’t sure how much we needed it for the R-31, but bottom line is it was well worth it both times. Totally. If I were in your goulashes, I’d do it.

I did the factory experience and I would do it again just for the chance to have the boat up in the San Juan Islands! After the two day training, which was great, I spend the next week going around the islands. I'm in SoCal so this was a great opportunity!

Bring a notepad and maybe even a video camera (smart phone). It's definitely information overkill. We were very tired towards the end of each day.

If you do want video and/or notes then it's best done by a second person with you otherwise you will miss a lot of information writing and messing with the video capture..
