Has anyone mounted small fans from the overhang above the helm and above the passenger side?

It can get pretty hot when you have to close the windows to avoid the sea spray.

If you go to Autozone, you can buy cheap 12 volt DC fans that will clamp to the hand grabs for the entrance to the V-berth. These fans will plug into the cigarette lighter outlets at the helm and navigator areas. They have an oscillating feature, so you can direct the air flow in about a 90 degree area for each.

I mounted 12 volt fans in the Laurie Ann; got rid of the first ones because they were too noisy. You do get what you pay for. We bought the current set at West Marine for about $30 each, but they are ultra quiet, provide a blast of air and can be adjusted to any angle. One mounted under the shelf above the navigator's chair and the other is above the stove. We took out the light above the stove and used the power for the fan.

West Marine also has a small 12v DC box fan that is quiet and moves a lot of air. It is good for getting air to flow through the cabin or use in the cockpit.

We got a squirrel cage fan from Wal-Mart for about 30 dollars. It is fairly compact.
We plug it into a 150 watt inverter and put it on the rear deck just ouside the door.
I blows a TORRENT of fresh air into the cabin from outside.

I mounted a pair of small 12V fans from the overhead. They are 2 speed fans and draw very few amps. They hang upside down from a central location in center of overhead (directly above the step-down to the sleeping area). I had an extra unused 12 VDC breaker in the panel and ran a single wire up to the overhead. I then installed the required 2 way rocker switch in the overhead with the 2 separate power feeds (slow or fast).

I got the fans and switches from surpluscenter.com which is a very good website and ofers other stuff you might want

If you do buy a fan make sure it has blades with soft edges so that if your hand or some other part of your body is hit by the rotating blades you are not injured in any way. This is important to protect adults as well as small children.

I have a fan with soft edges and at least once on each outing my hand gets hit by the blades but I survive without cursing or bleeding like a pig. 😉

We bought five 12vdc fans from Wallmart for $12 each and mounted two in the forward v-berth, two above the helm/passenger seats and one in the cave. They work fantastic. I will take some pictures and post them for you.
