I bought a used R25SC and need to replace the center flooring in the cabin. The previous owner had spilled something that stained the floor and covered it up with carpet. I would like to replace the flooring with the same material that was originally used or close resembalance. Is this possible and how do I remove the old flooring without taring anything up?

If your flooring is the same teak and holly laminated wood veneer that was on our 2013 RT-27, it can be torn out without damage to the fiberglass underneath. The flooring is glued down and tearing it out requires leverage (think crowbar, used gently) and strength. The process will rip up the original flooring, so if you need to make a pattern, do it beforehand. The factory replaced our cabin flooring during our first year or so of ownership, because it wasn't positioned where it should be. I watched. It was messy. I was happy not to be doing it myself.

As for replacement, check with the factory. The factory may not stock it (depending on the age of your boat), but they might be able to make you a new one if you can provide the pattern. I ended up doing that with the teak/holly on the underside of the cockpit overhang on our boat, which had weathered too badly to be refinished (especially since it would have to be refinished upside down). I sent the pattern to Richard in the parts department, and from that, the factory cut me a new one. Pulling off the old one was challenging, but it was a smaller and maybe a bit more manageable because of that than the flooring in the cabin.

I think the holly/teak veneer can be purchased as a raw material by the sheet, as well. You'll have to shop around for a supplier. That might be the most cost-effective way to go depending on the available sheet sizes and whether you want to take on making the cut-out yourself.

Good luck!

I replaced wood teak veneer flooring in C26 that was damaged. This is not Faux flooring but it is original material. I removed the old floor using a sharp scraper and hammer to break the glue beed around the edges then started lifting it up. It came up as one piece. I then used acetone to break down the glue on the fiberglass and remove it. I ordered the flooring from Fluid motion fit and and glued it down using Weldwood contact adhesive. Here are a few pictures of the removal and install.

After removal glue still remaining

Stripped all old glue and prepared for new floor

New floor section installed. unfortunately I did not receive a piece large enough to cut it in to match the lines on existing floor. 1/2" off!

Thank you for your information. It looks like this is very doable. I now need to see if I can get the new flooring shipped up to Kenai without breaking the bank!

There are various synthetic alternatives that are far superior to plywood/veneer. Search here on tugnuts and elsewhere on line. The shipping cost to AK will be about the same so might as well do something that will last forever.
