Gentlemen:
I do not own a Yanmar 4BY2-150 engine at this time but I am in the midst of researching the advantages between the Yanmar and the Cummins MerCruiser QSD2.0 -150 that was used in earlier models of the R-25. The Yanmar is really a BMW motor Yanmar marinized for boat use. It is an awesome design, but as all engines they have their own quirks. If you look at page 25 of your Operation Manual you will find that Yanmar is very emphatic about the type of oil that is used in this motor.
Engine Oil Specifications
Use a full-synthetic long-life engine oil that
meets or exceeds the following guidelines
and classifications:
Service Categories
• API Service Categories SM, SL, SJ, SH/
CF and CF
• ACEA Service Categories A3, B3 and B4
Definitions
• API Classification (American Petroleum
Institute)
• ACEA Classification (Association des
Constructeurs Européens d’Automobilies)
Also on the following pages in the manual there are several pages of approved oils that have the BMW Long Life 01 or 04 approvals. (04 is higher rated oil than 01) The bottom line is this the only oil that is really available is from a BMW dealer 5w-30 or Mobil 1 0w-40 for European vehicles, this oil is available at Pep Boy, Advance Auto and others.
If you research more you will find that you need to use a full synthetic BMW long life either 01 or 04 to comply with Yanmar’s oil specs.
Shell Rotella T-6, T-5 or Valvoline Premium Blue (full synthetic) is not rated with BMW’s long life rating.
If you have an oil related failure Yanmar could take an oil sample to find out if you have the correct oil in the engine.

Just my 2 cents.
