We took our new 25SC out of Annapolis yesterday for our first Memorial Day cruise... If you know Annapolis, add in the seemingly thousands of boats of all types, commissioning week at the Naval Academy and the perfect weather, you can picture how busy the area can be....

We're tickled with the response to the Ranger. People waving, shouted compliments, vessels jockeying to get a closer look, pier mates saying things like "beautiful little ship, that's my next boat, what a beauty."

I especially like watching sailors (we just sold our 32 ft. sloop) spotting the tug, telling their friends to turn around and look, and then talking amongst themeslves with smiles on their faces.

If I could just figure out a way to get a dollar per compliment, we'd have our boat paid for in no time!

We had the same experience on the Navesink River yesterday and the boat was purring. Must have known everyone was talking about her.
 
We often feel like a one boat boat show whenever we pull into a moorage. We've even had to establish a rule, no tours during meals.

This past weekend, at our mini-rendezvous at Fisherman's Terminal was especially cool. All the permanently moored boats are working vessels, and the fishing fleet was busy preparing for departure to SE Alaska. It was great to have many fishermen and tug crew, even a sailing charter captain, stop by to admire our little fleet of Ranger Tugs.

As one captain said, "now, that's a proper boat."

We had our grandchildren over the holiday weekend and took them by boat to a favorite restaurant. As I spun the boat around and backed into an open slip like a pro thanks to the thrusters, I had an audience of about a hundred.

Getting off the boat, walking into the restaurant, and while sitting at the table we had all kinds of comments and questions coming our way. All asking about the boat, complimenting its look, etc. My Grandson said "Granddad, we're probably going to be on the news, people are taking pictures!", and they were. We didn't make the news but I do understand that movie star feeling.

Man, I love this boat!
 
We never stop getting compliments for our R25. Not only for its looks but also for its features...

Yesterday we navigated the BIG lock separating fresh water Lake Washington and the salt water Puget Sound. We had to move away from the lock wall quickly to allow a big 60 footer to tie to the wall and for us to raft to it. It was easy for me to use the bow/stern thrusters to move sideways to allow this big ole boat in. When rafting up to the 60 footer people were all marveling at the way our R25 easily moved quickly sideways for them and never expected such a boat as ours to have thrusters. Even though their boat was marvelous in every way the conversations were 100% about our R25... their heads kept popping through our windows/hatches to take a good look inside... I had to beat them away in the end... :lol:
 
I think I have the best story abut giving tours of our "cute" Ranger Tug. Pat is always inviting people onto our boat to have a look inside, and I am always apologizing for the mess......but one day he was sitting in the cockpit drinking his coffee and some curious folks came by and he invited them in to have a look.....as usual....except.......

HE FORGOT i WAS STILL IN BED!!!!

So, fellow tug owners, be prepared to be the centre of attention, and since we have such a propensity to travel in herds......we are bound to be noticed!!!!

Such is the life of of a Tugnut!!

Be sure to lock the head/shower door as well... :lol:
 
Our boats also have the same reaction when you trailer them to another location. This past weekend we trailered our "Lone Star Ranger" to the Northern Neck area of Virginia, and while on the highway, I could see people in other cars admiring our boat as they passed us by. These are great boats!!!
 
Once while I was trailering, a guy followed me 15 miles, out of his way, so he could get a closer look at my boat. Another time, a guy and his daughter followed me for over a mile in his golf cart so he could get a closer look at my boat. Many people have asked if my boat was an antique or a fire boat. :lol: :lol: :lol:
