Many of you (including myself) complain of scuff marks from fenders on a dark hull. I just bought these fleece fender covers from Maine Coast Marine Products. We shall see.

I also had a blue hull Ranger (now painted red). I used the standard West Marine poly covers for 4 years and never had a scuffing problem. After they wore out, I went with the Maine Coast covers which were very soft, but faded quickly (at least here in NC). I now have covers from Overtons.com. They're polyester but are also quite soft and are fade resistant. Same price as Maine Coast. Either choice is excellent.

If you're in salt water be sure to wash down the fender covers religiously as any salt left on/in the covers will cause more damage/scuffing than fenders without covers.

While we're on the subject of scuffing - does anyone have a good solution to treat minor scuffing on a dark blue hull? I assume wax and buff?

We use a product called Aqua Blue 200 polishing compound. We use a wet foam pad on a Surehold dual action buffer. We keep the surface wet using small dabs of polish. Work the polish back and forth as it is a very mild abrasive compound. Then using a wet towel wipe off the polish let the surface dry and wax with Collinite Fleet wax paste number 885 but not in direct sunlight. Let the wax haze and use terry cloth towel to remove haze and then buff it with the buffer using a sheep's wool bonnet. Just do small areas at a time.
Also after washing the boat before the surface dries spray on some Turtle Wax and Dry just a spritz every couple of feet apart. Then use a terry cloth towel to dry. It leaves a spotless finish no water marks. Great for dark blue or black cars also.
