Fenders & Lines for R 25

I am soon taking possession of my new to me 2008 R25. There are no lines or fenders with it as the former owner is keeping for them for his new boat. I am looking for suggestions on the number of fenders and their sizes that I should purchase. As well please indicate what I am likely to need for lines, qty, diameter & lengths. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Since his R25 came from the factory with fenders and lines, I would ask your seller to leave them with the boat. Other than that you will need a minimum of 4 preferably 6 Polyform G5 fenders or similar. I would want two bow lines and two stern lines 25 footers by half inch. A couple more spring lines would be nice also, but you could use a bow or stern line for a spring line. Most time you will use just one bow line, one stern line, and one spring line.

I agree with Wallbog, 6 of everything in the sizes he indicated but at a minimum 4 fenders and 4 lines.

Good Luck with your new to you R-25.
The only thing I might add is if you plan on transiting any locks that you have two lines with an eye at one end long enough for the lock. The lock website should have requirements listed.
I have two 50 footers that have worked for me in the Ballard locks (Large lock).

Thanks to you folks for your good advise. My wife & I and our english springer spaniel "Tess" are looking forward to our adventures on "Lil Toot". We will be getting used to her next summer in our area here in New Brunswick on the Saint John River system and then venturing further afield as we retire in the next couple of years. We hope to do much of the intercoastal waterway in the years to come and get to meet many fellow "tuggers" along the way.

If you think you might be docked during heavy weather, I would recommend two bow lines, two stern lives, and four spring lines. All lines should be a minimum of 25 feet and 1/2 inch diameter. If you will be tied up during a hurricane, I recommend doubling up all the lines. Of course it is always better to pull the boat out of the water during a hurricane. I like to keep all my lines coiled up individually and stowed in a 5 gal plastic bucket, which fits nicely under my aft bench seat.

If the previous owner kept his lines and fenders be sure he didn't leave you light in the safety kit, PFD, and extinguisher arenas, and that nothing has expired.

Funny you should mention safety gear. I have been researching our Canadian safety requirements and have realized that life jackets require Canadian certification, the same for flares I believe. Visitors are ok with US aprooved items. Do most of you carry a spare anchor and a radar reflector. What types of both would you recommend. Any other suggestions re safety gear either required or just to have on board as good practise

FYI, Ranger Tugs have a RADAR reflector installed on the roof under the stack.
