Has anyone replaced the plastic fenders with metal ones? My plastic ones are starting to show age and are unsteady to stand on.

Hi Mark,

You could probably replace your poly fenders with metal ones but I think you would have to do some creative fabrication/engineering to mount them on your King trailer. These fenders http://www.easternmarine.com/Black-Plas ... els-44331/ are a direct replacement part for your trailer. I replaced my original King trailer grey fenders 2 seasons ago with these black fenders and I have been very happy. The only thing that I had to do was to drill the holes for the mounting bolts (the fenders don't come pre-drilled) and I had to make the cutouts for the fender mounted running lights. This I did using my Dremmel tool and a tile cutting bit. I cut out one of the corners of the old fender where the running light was mounted and used this piece as a template to mark my new fenders and it worked really well. These fenders are designed to work with the mounting brackets on your trailer so you will not need to buy new mounting brackets. You can go to your local hardware store and buy new mounting bolts to match the ones currently on the trailer.

Thank you for the post. If I might ask why you replaced your original gray ones. Mine pull away from the trailer. To better explain. You put your right foot on the bottom step, place your left on the top and the fender tips to your left about and inch or so. I then grab the top of the fender and pull up to get it back into place. Also, some times the top of the fender starts to collapse inward. How are your new ones performing for you?

Many Thanks

Hi Mark,

I replaced the original factory fenders because Tugger Toy and her King trailer had lived in Florida with the first owner for almost 3 years prior to us purchasing her and the sun had done a number on the gray fenders. Also, at some point in the trailers life prior to our purchasing it, the left side fender made contact with an immovable object obviously crushing the corner of the fender where the forward yellow marker light was positioned. The marker light had been replaced but the fender bore the scars of impact and as I was in the process of servicing things like brakes and wheel bearings and replacing the the sun damaged tires, I made the decision to replace the fenders at the same time. I have been extremely happy with the performance of these replacement fenders and the black color has held up very well. I also like the black fenders because they don't show dirt at all. The right side fender is the one that gets the most use for climbing aboard the vessel while on the trailer and I must admit that it may be getting a little soft on top but for the money, I won't have a problem if I have to replace it again in another 2 years or so.
