Filling R27 diesel fuel tank

Regarding dispersing spilled fuel, remember that such dispersed fuel is still in the water creating an environmental hazard. You just can't see it as stated in my previous post. That's why using detergent to disperse a spill is illegal.

Plus adds the detergent to the situation

Nor is it legal to pee over the side or thump ashes overboard. The law is not always practical and is often nonsensical. But it is always the law. Personally since I trailer the boat I simply avoid the issue by fueling ashore unless there is no alternative. And when it is unavoidable I don't top up the tank. Risk management.

Hopefully my boating career will be over before the powers that be get around to making it a requirement to capture and treat any water that falls on the deck.

As a new owner of a 2017 R25SC, I had a fuel burp on my first fueling effort and then read these posts. I ordered the Clean Way Fuel Fill device. I thought I'd take about 10 gallons of fuel...turns out, I needed 30 gallons to fill the tank. And, no spill. There was a slight burp, but the Clean Way did it's job. The folks in Oxford (Maryland) were impressed, saying they'd never seen one. I will definitely continue to use. Although, now that I know where FULL is, I probably will stop short except for long trips.

my solution to this problem is a fuel rag around the vent with one hand and then use my ears to listen to change in tone of the fuel flow going into the boat. there is a definitive pitch change as the tank is close to fuel. it doesnt work on a noisy dock. based on the garmin I know when I am getting close and reduce the fuel flow. sometimes its not as accurate - at 10% out, but at least it stops me from having to crouch for 70 gallons and just for the last 10 😀

What was the cost of the Racor fuel/air separator? Where did you get it? Please explain the whistle device and where you got it.
I bought the safe fill device, plus a little wire adapter they sell that attaches to the chain and allows it to hang below the safe fill but haven’t used them yet. Bob
