Fire extinguisher locations

I have a 2020 R-27 OB. Are other owners mounting their fire extinguishers or just putting them in secure visible locations. I’m curious about locations and mounting methods.

I keep my extinguisher in the top of my Emergency Bag which contains all Life jackets, flare gun, etc. This bag is stored in the quarter berth in hands reach.

Coast Guard regulations require that they be mounted on the supplied bracket. It is much safer to have them secured and not rolling around and getting buried under other stuff. When you need them, you need them in a hurry.
I don't have your model of the boat so can not give you specific locations but here is my 2 cents worth: I always mount one in the cockpit just inside the transom door from the swim platform. That is the one you grab to put out the car fire along the highway after you discharge the one in your tow vehicle ( done that once ). It is also the one you grab when your neighbor's boat needs it. (It is also located in proximity to the engine.) Second one goes in the cabin so if the cooking goes bad or there is an electrical or other fire between you and the one in the cockpit you have it right at hand. Don't mount it right over the stove however because you don't want to have to reach through the fire to get to it. If there is a third one, my plan is to mount it in the forward berth, somewhere close at hand. If you find they are always visible rather than hidden in an obscure out of the way place, that is a good thing, just don't put them somewhere that you are always kicking them or bumping into them. I prefer to mount the brackets with through bolts if I can reach behind to install the nuts, but otherwise I have had good luck just using stainless steel screws with a dab of silicone on them when installed. Only caution is to make sure you know what is behind the panel you are drilling into so that you don't puncture something with your drill or your screw that you don't want punctured.

I can't argue with Capt Karl's idea of having one loose with his ditch bag as long as it is an additional one that does not need to be mounted to meet the Coast Guard requirements.

We mounted one on the wall next to the TV.
We put our second one just inside the cave, centerline wall, left hand side looking into the cave.
And our third is mounted starboard side, aft, in the cockpit. by the speaker.

I drilled holes to mount all three fire extinguishers.

I mounted one on the rear side wall in closet second in kitchen between top cabinets in frontside, and third under starboard deck seat all with Velcro striping holds very well no drilling

I'm curious about the apparent requirement to have the fire extinguishers mounted. On a recent USCG safety check their checklist shows as a mandatory requirement that fire extinguishers are required and must be "readily accessible and verified as serviceable", then on the right side of the their check list is a separate line item for "mounted fire extinguishers as being recommended but not a VSC requirement. If it's a USCG requirement to be mounted then why this specific language suggesting it's only recommended? BTW, I used double sided sticky tape to mount all three of mine but it doesn't seem to hold all that well in some locations so the one in the salon sits in a basket on the dining table.

I was told by the USCG Auxiliary who did our safety inspection, we need at least 2 fire extinguishers onboard. If they're not mounted they will recommend you mount them, but they're not required to be mounted.

If they're not mounted they could be moved. If a fire breaks out folks onboard will say "where's the fire extinguisher?", if they were mounted everybody would know where they are always at.

This is why we drilled holes to permanently mount all 3 of them.
