Thinking a tender and a bracket for the kicker/tender motor is going to be my first upgrade. Anyone have any recommendations for other must have’s ?

Ok, that should keep you busy for a while!

I see you are in Florida. If you have a dog or plan on anchoring out a lot then a dingy is necessary. If you are anchoring overnight and traveling without a dog then a dingy is not as necessary. Buddy boating with a boat that has a dingy is the best of both worlds! On the east coast a hard bottom is not as necessary as the PNW. IMO, with a new boat use it for a season before deciding on updates, needs and desires. If you get a dingy go with Hypolon over PVC. PVC is lighter and cheaper, but won't hold up to the UV and heat. Do not go bigger than 8'-6" so it won't stick out past the boat and be heavier. I never had davits. I was able to easily lash it to the swim platform using the swim platform cleats and the stern rail with ratchet straps. When not in use I deflated it and stored it under the solar panel. As far as motor goes; Electric is expensive, but no gas and light. If you want to go gas get a small Honda. I had the Torqueedo. A great motor, but the battery will last about 7 years and then big bucks for a new one. If you need service there are few repair places so shipping to Torqeedo is necessary. there are several motor mount brackets available. I had one that clamped onto the stern rail on the port side over the swim step, not in the cockpit. Some people store the Torqeedo in the cave.

He have a Takacat 260 and an ePropolulsuon Spirit 1.0+. We store the dinghy deflated in the center cockpit lazerette and the motor in the quarter berth.

Welcome Ger Ramsberger,

I've done a few upgrades to the 2014 R25 SC we got last year. I'd say a battery shunt to monitor battery levels would be my first recommendation. On our first trip after picking up the boat we drained the house batteries more than we thought while at dock with no shore power. Wish I had a battery monitor setup then.

I like the Victron SmartShunt because I can monitor it on my phone. The BMV-712 is also great for a mounted monitoring setup.

Second the Victron Energy Smart Shunt with WiFi and the BMV-712 for the must have list.
One of the most important mods wasn’t in my original list and that’s the entry step cut out modification for vastly improved front of engine access. Search will give you several threads and photos of that mod. Our R-25 Classic already had the mod when we bought the boat so it slipped my mind.

My first reply was Must Have items. My “Nice To Have” list is even longer than the Must Have list. PM me if you want the Nice To Have list.

Stealing a bit off of @scross upgrade list, plus a bit more. I bolded the things that made the biggest impact:

  • Dinghy + davits
Toqueedo electric motor - 1103CS - I resisted this for years, but once I bought one (on sale) I can't see going back to a gas dinghy motor.
60 AMP MPPT controller, 2 - 360W Solar panels, Renogy 30 amp dc-dc controller, Victron 30 amp lithium battery charger, 2-200Ah LiFE04 batteries with 250A BMS, Victron battery shunt, 3000W Inverter Should have done this much sooner/first!
Raw water wash down at bow
Small microwave installed below aft dinette seat
Upgrade to CMD-8 stereo with bluetooth and remote control
All interior bulbs converted to LEDs
Added LED floodlight and accent lights to cockpit
    Stern underwater Green LEDs
    LED Engine Room lights
Remote control and bow toe switches for Lewmar winch
Sea Era conversion to electric head
RICAMBI BI29 12v deep freezer under forward v-berth cushion
    110v outlet in v-berth
    USB outlets in cabin
Weems & Plath Yacht Oil Lamp
    RaptorDek in cockpit and bow
    Forward cabin window curtains
Stainless, angled boat ladder for easier boarding
    Replaced cockpit bench seat
Replaced cockpit cabinet/storage doors with Starboard hatch
    Cockpit shower
19 inch LED TV with DVD player
Added passenger seat storage hatch & under table cave access hatch
    Re-upholster passenger/dinette seating
    110v outlet under dinette
door actuated LED light in glove box
    Radar antenna
    Wifi booster
    HDTV antenna
    Magma Grill
Head remodel with Starboard cabinet doors, glass bowl sink, tile backsplash, mirrors, and LED lighting
A/C soft start and A/C ventilation added to cave and v-berth
Remodel cave with LED lighting, Caframo fan and marine vinyl wall coverings
Caframo fans in v-berth and main cabin
    ResQLink PLB
    Engine room sound proofing (Soundown)
Removable floor access from cabin to engine room.
New, higher helm seat, including forward/back and rotate adjustable
Convert dinette table to fold with cup holders
    Teak storage box above cave
Raymarine Dragonfly 5 pro (fishfinder/chart plotter) in addition to existing Raymarine chartplotter
    Exhaust overheat sensor
    Raw water flow sensor
Black and fresh water tank level sensors
Replace A/C water strainer with Groco ARG-1500-S Raw Water Strainer (no more 100 degree day or midnight filter cleaning)
    Handheld Standard Horizon marine radio
Cliq amping chairs for cockpit seating
Teak folding table for cockpit, stored under cave teak top cover
rod storage holders in cave for collapsible rods
Raw water intake valve to straight through valve to allow for cleaning intake blockages from inside the boat.
    Opening/closing hatch screens
    Brass clock/barometer
    Back door folding screen
Faux granite finishing to galley (painted)
    Teak shelving in galley
    Fuel Fill Warning Whistle
Replaced monkey fur with cedar in v-berth and teak laminate and marine vinyl in cabin.
Camco RV Water Tank Filler with Shutoff Valve for filling water tank
    Cockpit bimini
    Ensign bow flag pole
    10 year CO2 detectors (2)
    Smoke/fire detector

    I'm sure I'm missing something...

Things I still want to do:

  • Replace holly and teak flooring with vinyl holly & teak flooring (NautikFlor)
    Floodlight for bow
    Cockpit fold up seating
Add fuel fill to cockpit (2007 has fuel fill on the Starboard side only)...

I used to carry a generator but no longer need to do this because of the solar upgrade.

Others suggestions are excellent. I would add a cell phone booster or Starlink for connectivity to internet. For a gas dinghy motor, get the Suzuki 2.5 HP, not the Honda. Our Honda was noisier and centrifugal clutch was terrible. Boat would lurch when the motor was started and you had no control when docking or coming back to boat if you powered down.

Yes, I'm looking at adding a cell phone booster as well.

I can also recommend the 2.5 Suzuki,it runs really well at a great price. Unfortunately, I didn't use it enough in a season so it didn't start reliably as I wanted it to, so the move to electric. I'm thinking about selling mine in anyone in the NJ/NY area is interested.
