First transmission oil change

Preparing to do first fluid changes on our 2017 R-27. Have Amsoil 15-40 marine synthetic diesel oil on the way. What is perplexing is some threads about the transmission fluid. The manual says Dexron III...which is standadrd hydraulic transmission fluid. Some threads on tugnuts say to use engine oil? I don't get it!

We had a 2012 R27 with a Yanmar engine and the transmission used engine oil, as you mentioned. You have a Volvo which might explain the differences in what you've read on Tugnuts, regarding oil weight and type.

Follow the recommendation in your engine manual. Our Volvo D3 manual says ATF (Dexron II or III). That is what I use in our 2014 R27.

Our 2015 R25SC has the Volvo. I use ATF Dexron VI because that is what has replaced II and III and it is what I can find locally. I send it in for an oil analysis every change, like the engine oil, and it comes back with a good report!
