I’m looking at tugs and considering a newer R-31CB — like it for the expansive command bridge seating, and the rigid cockpit cover / bimini for our northwest weather.

Fishing is not something I do regularly, and it won’t be a primary use of the boat, but does the hard bimini top basically mean fishing is impossible, or will occasional fishing still be an option.

Crabbing and shrimping on the other hand will be regular activities, but I don’t see it getting in the way of those... am I right?

If you use a down rigger I don't see the hard top Bimini getting in the way. On my R29 CB the hard top Bimini isn't as extensive as on the R31 CB, but nonetheless it does not interfere with my down rigger fishing activities.

When netting a fish I will at times go out onto the swim step to make things easier.

I think you'll be fine fishing (trolling and stationary jigging) on the R31 CB.

We troll with our R31S regularly and the hardtop hasn’t been a problem. The rear helm and trolling valve would be a must-have, imho.

Thanks all. My understanding is that the trolling valve can be added by a Volvo tech for ~$2k, if it doesn't have it from the factory?

Downrigger fishing = salmon, right? How about halibut?

I had the Volvo Low-Speed feature added to my R29 CB's 300HP Penta by La Conner Maritime. It cost a bit more than your estimated $2K.

In boat bucks, $3.50 isn't so far from $2.00
