Has anyone used FloatPlanOne?

If so, what is your opinion of it? If you don't use this, do you use some other method for filing a Float Plan, especially when traveling a good distance alone?

The one review on that app states that it requires a $70.00 annual fee.
I use the standard USCG float plan and each of our adult children have a copy of it. When we are underway I take a picture of the Garmin screen with Lat/Long position, heading, speed, ect and text them that info every couple of hours. I also let them know when we are underway and when we have reached our destination.
I mentioned this to a USCG Auxillary officer last year and he thought taking a pic of the screen was a great idea. If necessary the USCG has accurate info as to where to begin a search.

Well, I use spot. The subscription is $99 per year and when we are traveling I just press a button and it notifies whomever I listed as a recipient by e-mail that we are okay. It also has an emergency button, if we are in trouble it will notify all the necessary authorities, our loved ones and also give our position. kind of like an eperb.

For keeping folks appraised of my location, etc while cruising, I use a Delorme InReach satellite device. It posts my location at specified intervals, plus allows me to post to facebook, and send and receive short email messages. In addition, there is an SOS feature...

I also leave a copy of my itinerary with family and friends....

We've use SPOT for years. But for the last 2-3 years we've also used Facebook. We check-in as departing with location, destination, route and ETA whenever we get underway. I indicate who is with me. Then we check-in as secure when we reach our destination. If necessary, we update our ETA and/or route if they change significantly. I'll also check in along the way.

We have enough friends and family, both boating and land-locked, who are tuned to their timelines to know we're being tracked.

Cheers,

Bruce
