Toni and I are heading to the east coast of Florida to cruise the intracoastal for the summer. We are looking for long term secure storage for our truck and trailer while we are on the boat. We hope to make a Bahama crossing if the weather permits before heading north. Many marinas provide this service, any ideas would be appreciated.

I have mace several trips to Gulf coast with LENABELL but have not yet been able to do the trip down to lower part of Florida. I did some scouting and there is a campground near Astor on St John River which has a marina next door. They have a fairly secure long term storage area a hundard yards from their marina. Also a good launch ramp. Owner even has a ton dually truck to assist any Tugnut without wisdom to buy a 4WD truck (like me). I stayed in campground last year and the owners of campground and marina appear to be good people. I plan to go back there to launch and do the St John River tour. I am not sure how much time you have but I suggest that you consider including the St john River in your plans.

speaking of florida--- steveandtina will be flying out to appalatchicola tues where the CHRISTINA BEE is waiting for ua at billyjoebob''s cheap storage yard [his back yard] where we will spend the next 17 days exploring the coast eastward as far as ft myers hopefully... obviously not entirely on her bottom given the distance..... any and all suggestions regarding places to see along this route would be greatly appreciated.. see yall on the water!! 😀 😀 steveandtina

I suspect that you will find that many of the larger marinas on the east coast will provide truck/trailer storage since a lot of the ones with haul-out and maintenance facilities also have secure dry-storage yards with available space. Westland, in Titusville, for instance, would probably provide for you.

If you can fit it in, don't miss Tarpon Springs, our favorite spot on the west coast, and maybe in the entire state. In our opinion the west coast generally boasts better anchorages and smaller, more interesting towns.

Tarpon Springs is a tourist-oriented town but has an historic Greek sponge diving background. While tourism is a mainstay it is still a working coastal town. We have seen the sponge boats working just off shore with hard-hat divers and air hoses just like they always have used. And it doesn't matter whether you are on the tourist strip or back off the main drag a bit, the restaurants are superb. Mama Maria's and National Bakery, about 2 blocks back, were among our favorites. Especially if you can stay in the municipal marina and hit National when the rolls come out of the oven in the early hours of the morning. Greeks take food very seriously, and you won't find a friendlier bunch of people.

We haven't been there for several years but the (small) municipal marina was the best for seeing the town. There are several other marinas a bit down the river then. I believe all will arrange for a courtesy car or rides to and from town. The anchorages around the mouth of the Anclote River have good holding and protection.

See Anclote Key and Three Rooker Bar listed first on this site:

Thats Greg Allen's "Billy Joe Bob inexpensive storage" . Also known locally as Outback Storage . He is a good guy and has a number of our customer's boats there .

steveandtina,

Karin and I spent January and February on the west coast of Florida in our motorhome. We plan to go back next winter with our soon-to-arrive R27 after becoming comfortable handling it on inland lakes/rivers this summer and fall. Places we really enjoyed along the coast:

1. Port St. Joe
A really nice harbor/marina
2. Appalachicola
Several good restaurants along the river and 1-2 blocks inland and the Appalachicola river to explore
3. Carrabelle
A really fun looking harbor/marina and a nice stretch of white sand beach nearby. We camped in the Carabelle Beach RV Resort about 100 yards from the white sand beach.
4. Homosassa Springs
Lots of coastal tidal land and rivers to explore. Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park - wonderful.
Be sure to check out our favorite restaurant in the middle of nowhere - Neon Leon's Zydeco Restaurant. Make reservations on the nights they have live music - very crowded. This is a must enjoy experience!

5. Sarasota
Siesta Key beaches are the best white sand beaches we have ever seen. Amazing.
6. Ft. Myers Beach (where we spent the most time, because we enjoyed it so much)
Great harbor/marinas/keys. Every one should enjoy Captiva Island and Sanibel Island (known world-wide for its great beach shelling). Not enough time to see and explore the whole area. We plan to go back for an extended stay with our boat.

THANK YOU ALL FOR FLORIDA SUGGESTIONS-- WE ARE ACQUIRING QUITE THE LIST....PROBABLY WILL HAVE TO CHANGE MY PLANE RESERVATIONS FOR THE TRIP HOME.... AND WORRIED THAT WE WILL NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO DISCOVER NEW PLACES !!! IT IS ALL GOOD . ANOTHER ADVENTURE FOR US. SURE DO APPRECIATE YOUR IN PUT SINCE YOU HAVE BEEN THERE--DONE THAT....THANKS AGAIN AND LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ON THE WATER. TINA
FROM THE C HRISTINA BEE.

Thanks for the information. We hope to be on the water sometime next week.
