Yesterday was my first time refiling the domestic water tank on my 2022 R27. Of course I completely messed up adding the water fresh and added 4 times what I needed. Simple fix, empty the tank, but my question is this

Can I run the domestic water pump continuously and what happens if I run it dry once I get to the bottom of the tank?
I have seen other pumps where continuous operation is an issue.

You can empty the tank. The pumps are made so they can run dry, but I would not do that on a regular basis. I never could understand why Ranger never added a drain hose.

Most fresh water pumps installed in boats are diaphragm pumps ( No impeller). The pumps with impellers will be damaged if operated dry for any length of time. The fresh water pumps installed in boats can operate without water with no concern of damaging them. The only damage that may occur if operated continuously is heat generated from the motor and wear to moving parts. This would not be the case as to an occasional draining of the water tank and then running it dry for a short period of time. The fresh water pumps installed in boats are the same design as the pumps used for raw water wash downs. When used on commercial charter fishing boats theses pumps operate hours on end. Don't worry about using the fresh water pump it is made to pump water !

Hello! New to Tug world. Lot's of questions. We finally got our RT 27 2016 fresh water running. The pump is loud with pulsates with "roaring." Is that normal? Thanks!

Yes
Pretty normal

Yes, normal. An accumulator tank can help reduce the noise and even things out somewhat (search threads for accumulator for more info).

If the water pump noise is too loud at night, just switch off the water pump. We shut ours down every night. If we get up in the middle of the night and need water for anything it’s just a flick of the 5th switch from the bottom (and just below the ON refrigerator switch) on the DC panel to turn it back on. Easy to do even in the dark!

This quiets ours down after it’s been filled after being run dry:

1) fill tank
2) turn pump off
3) open all faucets (hot and cold)
4) turn pump on and let run for a minute or two. (Until there is no gurgling)
5) turn faucets off, starting with the closest finishing with the farthest.

Don’t forget your cockpit shower, if you have one.
