The autopilot is at great variance with the GPS heading. Where is the fluxgate compass located so we can see if we have moved something metallic nearby. Otherwise, is it a matter to re-calibrating the compass?

Not sure where it is on the 29, but it does seem like some ferrous metal may have been put near it or sometimes the knurled screw can loosen and then it will turn from vibration. Yes you can re-calibrate if necessary, but see if there is metal placed near it.

On my 2011 it is located behind the drawers in the galley.
Good luck

I had a similar issue last summer-- and my factory rep (Ivan) suggested a simple, albeit temporary solution--shut off all power to the Garmin navigation system/autopilot via the main house switch for a few minutes (and then turn it back on). This did the trick, although the issue comes back periodically and requires additional reboots.

Hello,

You can check the compass behind the galley drawers but sounds like the autopilot may need to be spun as sometimes over time it can and will lose a bit of its calibration. Also shutting the whole system done is something that needs to be done in order for the system to reset. Try shutting it all down and if it still is giving you issues you can email me and I would be able to walk you through the calibration. My email is in my signature.

Thank you,
Kevin Lamont

Would you believe a drawer full of magnetized knives from a magnetic knife holder on prior boat! Thanks everyone.

Glad to hear it was that simple.

I have found Garmin nav package more reliable when powered down and full reset. Dealer told me this and I found it works well.

Had breakfast last week with a commercial airline pilot.
He said they shut down everything and reboot for every flight.

Just got a small demagnatizer. Can keep my good knives.

Let us know if the demagnetized works. We have electric bikes in the cave of our R27 which also is the location of the compass. Heading is regularly screwed up. Tired of recalibrating. And moving the compass is a PITA!

This demagnatizer is just a small one that will fit smaller knives and tools. They do sell larger ones, but I don't know if bike sized are available.
