Has anyone found a low profile antenna for the fusion radio in the newer tugs? The short wire doesn't bring in much. Ive been debating on signing up for satellite as we like the talk news shows but are weighing the cost(s).
Also has anyone tried the small stick on the window TV antennas for use at metropolitan ports? They look like a placemat. Can you bring in the local channels? Or perhaps some other portable antenna to use for both tv and radio.

I got a Shakespeare 4350, and it works great.

It does require a permanent installation, but it does pull in the stations. We had it mounted on the port forward ceiling about a couple of feet back from the windshield.

Bill: Can you post a photo of what the installation looks like from the inside of the cabin on the ceiling. I assume you had to make holes for the mounting bolts, right ? Also, how did you route the coax cable to the Fusion radio ? Thanks... 🙂

Hi Barry:
We'll be back at the boat on Friday, and I'll grab some photos.

I had the good folks at Wefings in Apalachicola do the install, along with the second vhf marine radio. They did a professional job.

I don't use our FM radio much, but when I had poor reception once I took the short antenna wire, unscrewed a window screw and re-screwed with the eye from the antenna between. Excellent reception.

Great tip, Knotflying. Very economical, and will be what we try first. Thanks for the idea.
