Hi Tugnuts,

We’ve decided to take down the 'For Sale by Owner' section for the time being. We've encountered some challenges in verifying the identity and boat ownership of certain posters.

One of our primary priorities is to maintain a safe and trustworthy community, with a focus on boating discussions and community connections. We think this change aligns with that priority.

Thank you!

Sam

That is unfortunate Sam as this was a valuable resource for Tugnuts members as well as potential buyers .
I hope you can overcome whatever reservations you might have in posting this information.

Sad to see this - didn't seem like there were that many posts where this would have been an issue...

I too wish for this information to be reinstated in a responsibie way.

I found my 2014 R25SC in a Tugnuts for- sale ad several years ago. I love my boat and I was planning on advertising it for sale on Tugnuts in the future when I’m too old to go boating. But I’m also well aware of the fraudsters who work in the online marketplaces. During my years at the largest e-commerce company in the USA and Europe I worked to detect the fraudulent merchants. It takes quite a few resources for the web platform owner to stay on top of all the ways the fraudsters can use to cheat and lie (to put it bluntly). I understand why Fluid Motion had to ‘pause’ the for sale ads, and I hope it is temporary. And I’m also glad they were monitoring the For Sale forum and were able to detect the bad actors. I assume we can still use the Chat forum to announce that we’re selling our boat, and provide contact details and photos. Sam Bisset- please comment on that approach.
Thank you

Disappointing.... I assume they rather drive business to their Broker/ Dealer network.

I too appreciated having a section that allows sharing available for sale options amongst users. I can't imagine that it would be too hard to have reasonable restrictions that would allow this section to be made functional.
Would love to see this back.

I don't think its fair to assume the worst of Fluid Motion here. Anyone who's used Marketplace or Craigslist knows what a haven for sale sites are for scammers.

Hi all, we appreciate the comments. it's good to hear where everyone is coming from. If we can identify time- and cost-efficient ways to verify the identity of posters and prevent anyone from misusing the platform to hide their identity or scam others, we will certainly consider bringing the section back.

In the meantime, we suggest sticking to the well known online platforms to list your boat, just use caution. We've seen a high amount of fraudulent parts and accessories listings on Facebook. We want Tugnuts.com to be a fun, safe, and useful space for our past, present, and future customers.

We value your feedback which has shown us how useful this feature was for tugnuts.

OH! Now I understand why no inquiries for our R-25. Hopefully, you'll resolve the challenges so all of us who get the " two foot itis" itch will make our first inquiry
on Tugnuts. It was a wonderful family tool for all of us.....

So how can new pote nyial boat owners find that tug of our dreams if the sales are removed? I'm 76 and wanting to buy my first boats...you better hurry and straighten that out!

Maybe I can visit your next gathering festivals..Any in San Diego?

TugNuts is unquestionably the “go to site” for valuable and relevant information on Ranger Tugs. We sold our R21EC on the for sale section of TugNuts. And we purchased our R27 the same way. We would have seriously considered a new R27 if an inboard version was still offered. I can’t think of a better way for Ranger Tugs to affirm its leadership role in supporting this brand than to have a “For Sale” section. I would suspect that many subscribers may, after seeing how these boats hold their value, have opted to purchase a new one from Ranger Tugs. I hope you can find a way to reinstate this section.

Disappointing, I purchased my R21EC from this forum. It is time to update and was hoping to find my new boat here as well as list Tuglet. Here is hoping the issue can be resolved.

I actually joined this group in an effort to try to find my dream Ranger Tug. Most of the good boats get sold by word of mouth or through forums like this long before they get listed with a broker. I will keep an eye on the forums and see what pops up.

I would add that many of us don't sell anything on large online sites. I made a very useful sale of a brand new Bimini that I would never use for half price. Otherwise, it would've rotted in my yard until I took it to the dump.

I hope that this valuable forum is restored and made safe for everyone's use soon.

I think there could be a simple condition of use that limits the companies exposure to risk. I don't need baby blankets and enhanced protection from making a potential multiple 100's of thousand dollar purchase listed from a forum group. Anytime buying something like a boat, I am going to "protect myself at all times" as they say in combat sports.

I am curious if this is actually in the works to be brought back or if someone has decided never again?
is this coming back or is it a Never again type of thing?

Of course, as i said prior my vote is to bring it back, and I would like to add this, bring it back right away so I can use it..lol!

Thank you for the feedback, everyone. Ed, it's not our top priority right now but like I said earlier, we're not opposed to getting the forum back up if we can find time- and cost-efficient ways to verify the identity of posters and prevent anyone from misusing the platform to hide their identity or scam others.
