For any of you that are BoatUS members, if you look at the very bottom of the BoatUS email sent on November 6, 2012, there is a link to get a free copy of Navionics for PC. The license actually covers 5 free installations. You need to hurry - offer expires 12/31/2012.

Hello Rick:

I have a question about the free Navionics PC app. Have you went thru the process as outlined on the BoatUs and Navionics sight and downloaded the app? I've just tried and when I got to the check out page I had no voucher code to place in the voucher box at checkout. I did fill out the info with my email address/pass word and I'm assuming Navionics uses this to then email us the voucher code, is that correct or have I missed a step? The reason I ask is that we have not received back any email with the stated code. If you have gone thru the process how long before you received your voucher? Please post back here with any additional information for the benefit of others.

Thanks for the help,

Jim F

The Voucher Code is at the bottom of the BoatUS email, right under the link you clicked for BoatUS.com/Navionics.

Make sure you have a fast connection... it is nearly 1 gig download.

I assume PC ≠ Mac

Barry:

My reading of the sight showed it as being for both pc and mac. On another note about this subject,,,,we are BoatUS members but I could not locate the email they sent to members that has the voucher # needed when filling out the order form, this is what makes it free. My plan, and others that are BoatUS members who don't have their voucher # might try this, is that I'm calling BoatUS today to give them my member # so I can try and have them give me a voucher #...so I can then download the FREE software.

Jim,

I, like you, could not locate an e-mail from BoatUs. If you have success in contacting BoatUs would you share what you find out.

Thank you,
Mike

Mike:

I called BoatUS this morning, asked for customer service and explained the situation and after they verified our member # they emailed us a new email with the voucher #.

The email I got from BoatUS said the software was for a PC. During the download process, I was given the option to download either for PC or MAC. I know the PC download works. I don't know about the MAC download.

I have both boat insurance and towing with BoatUS. The email I got was from BoatUS Member Services and includes other discounts besides Navionics. I don't know if the email was intended for people with BoatUS Insurance or BoatUS Towing. I am sorry if I caused any confusion.

Jim,

Thank you. I contacted BoatUS, as you did, and the e-mail was resent along with the voucher code. In process of downloading onto my MacBook Pro. Good size download.

Update.
Loaded the Navionics App on my MacBook and found it works very nice. Next will be plotting a route while at home and saving to an SD card. And, then see if I can get it to upload into my Garmin system.
One note, the settings tab (when open) will scroll for additional parameter adjustments.

While downloading the large US app on our Apple laptop I thought I saw somewhere that there were 5 "licenses" available. I guess I took this to mean we might be able to download 5 different charts or maybe the same chart onto 5 different devices. This is probably a false assumption on my part but I thought I'd ask my fellow Tugnutters. I tried to download on a second device but was informed the voucher code had already been used. Any advice?

You do not have to download again, I believe you can open up Navionics World. I did and started to reinstall the data and it told me I had 4 licenses left. Not sure how to move all this over to another pc, but it appears that is part of the procedure. I am sure you would not need to use one of your 4 licenses left to reinstall it on the same computer. Since I do not have another computer I want to install it on I did not continue the reinstall.
Good Luck,
Herb

I opened the Navionics program up and it wanted to update some charts. I clicked ok and it started downloading nearly 2 GB of charts. Took a while. Then it wanted to update the program. I clicked ok and the program closed. No further action. Then after the charts finished downloading, the program wanted me to log into Navionics. I did not have to log into Navionics with the initial install so I did not have a password. My only option was to reset my password, which I did. They emailed me a link that allowed me to set a new password. Now when I open the program the enter password screen comes up, I put my email and password in and it rejects it. The update program comes up and if I click update on it the program closes. If I click cancel, the program seems to operate normally. Not sure about the chart updates.

As a test, I made a short route and tried to export it to an sd card. The program asked for the brand of plotter I use and gave me a drop down menu with about 8 brands.....Garmin was not one of the options.

I think I will be uninstalling this program.

I downloaded and installed the PC version on my desktop and got everything working good. I too noticed I had 4 additional licenses available. I tried installing it on my net book using the voucher code like I did on my first install and was rejected. So, I did a download/install without the voucher code, and when I logged in it recognized I had additional licenses available and download the US and Canada maps. Everything worked good.

I am supposed to be able to transfer routes created on one computer and copy them over to another computer. That is what I am going to try next. I also have a GPS device I attached on my net book. I am going to see how the Microsoft GPS integrates with Navionics. I know the GPS in my android Droid Razr smartphone works good with the android Navonics. My wife just bought a Samsung Galaxy S III android smartphone and was thrilled when she installed Navonics on it yesterday.

RProffer.....was that second download/install on your net book or back onto your desktop?

Jim

The first download/install was on my desktop. The second download/install was on my net book. I have two free licenses.
