Fresh Water Meter

Hi All,
We have a 2023 R31-S and our fresh water meter is not accurately registering the amount of fresh water on board. We tried turning the breaker on and off, running water from all faucets, but no luck. is there anything else we can try to resolve this issue?

The float is likely stuck. Take the boat out for a spin in some rough water. That has always worked for us when this happens.

Last week I had the same problem. I was filling my tanks up, water started spurting out the side, but the needle was barely 3/4 full. I said screw it, the tank is clearly full and then crossed the Strait of Georgia on a less than nice day.

When I got to my destination in the San Juans, had barely used any water, and the meter was registering full then.

First time for me.

If you want to have more accurate measurements, you can add a Garmin fluid sensor (NMEA2K) to your network, and then take 10% calibrations (or even finer if you wish) of your water tank (0 gallons, 6, 12, 18, etc.) until you get to 60 as part of the setup process for that fluid sensor in the garmin setup. I use a flow meter on a hose to ensure the right number of gallons is going in for calibration. the fluid sensor attaches to the back of the analog meter, and then to the N2K network.

On our 2022 R27OB the water tank meter would read a needle width "under" full when the inlet was overflowing! We initially had an issue with the pickup tube that RT fixed. While testing this, we removed 5gal at a time to see what capacity we actually had. After removing 15gal, the meter showed 1/2 tank, removing another 15gal showed 1/8 tank remaining, when there was still 10gal inside. We pumped out 7 more gals before we had cavitation/pickup issues, with the needle showing empty.

Mine reads high all the time, as does my fuel per the engine computer. I'm pretty sure it's because my boat is stern heavy so the floats are not measuring right. I resolved the fuel quantity issue via the Garmin chartplotter interface, but the water level fix eludes me.

On my 2012 R27 the water gauge reads full at 26 gallons and overflow through the vent occurs at 40 gallons. I noted that during filling the gauge mover in steps much like the second hand on some wrist watches (tick- tick- tick...). I suppose the steps are caused by a contact sweeping across a wire coil.
