Do you have to rip up the teak floor to get access to the water tank and/or fuel tank? What idiot designed it so you can't reach the tanks? Have a leak from the hose to the tank and can't even reach it.
Jim

I apologize for responding to a question with another question but we are Newbies here (relatively) We own a 2012 Ranger 29 S and have a similar issue to this one.... We believe anyway but as there is no obvious access point we have the same question No idea if anyone visits past posts (no apparent response to the initial statement), but thought we would try.

Also, we have a stuffing box that after repeated attempts to adjust keeps going back to about 60 drips a minute even though I adjust it to 1 Drip per minute engine off?

Final question, we have water incursion aft of the pertained area behind the Aux fuel Tank? Any ideas? The Swim Platform seems to have a great deal of water across it as slow speeds.

Thank you. all,

Winds,

I can't give you the method of access to the tank in a R25 but I will advise looking for a panel that can be removed to access the tank and pump. I have had many water leaks in my fresh water system (first 2 years of ownership) and have found ways of getting to every connection by dismantling the interior. I will say once all connections are addressed and properly installed and tightened the water system has been trouble free. I am starting to feel like I have a Monday built boat instead of a Friday built boat. I just had to rebuild it!!!

When adjusting packing the first step is to start the engine and put it in gear. I do this at the dock with the boat properly tied bow and stern lines and spring lines. Count the number of drips. You want average of 3 per minute. If you see more than that say 10 per minute, take it out of gear and shut the engine off. Make a small adjustment to tighten the packing. I normally go no more than an 1/8 turn. Restart and in gear now check for drips. Once you have slowed the drips down to more that one per minute but less than 4 permute you are done. Shut the engine off and check the packing. with the engine off the packing should not be leaking. Give it a 1/2 hour after shut down to confirm that it is not leaking. If after doing this you still have an issue with the packing leaking it is time to consider repacking the gland. Many times boat owners get carried away when tightening the gland and over tighten it this reduces the longevity and causes it to fail.

Unfortunately the water on the swim platform is an issue with all Tugs and Cuts that have the fiberglass platform. The design is user friendly as a platform but poorly designed for performance at speeds under 8KTS. I have had water come in through the aft door and flood the cockpit. If the deck drains located in the locker troughs are not clean water can get into the compartments and if the limber holes are not plugged this water will drain into the bilge area which would be under the Aux tank. Another thing to look for is are all the fasteners for the swim platform in good condition? Fluid Motion uses 304 fasteners not 316 so they are susceptible to high corrosion if under water. Check to make sure that the leak is not coming from the fasteners or lack of. Check to make sure the aft thruster is not leaking. The best way to find a leak is dry the area out and look for a witness mark of where the water might be draining from.

On our 2008 R 25, below the berth, there is a step down. On the face of the step, is an inspection cover that I believe gives access to the water tank, and perhaps the water line.

I don't know if the classic is the same as the 25SC but in our 2015 R25SC the access was under the refrigerator which required you to pull the refrigerator out and slide it forward. Sounds more difficult than it actually was. Our fresh water gauge stopped working so I had to remove it, clean it off, and reinstall and then it worked fine.
