I would like to know the proper order/procedure for flushing my motor which came with a freshwater hose flush adaptor system (see photos).

Order of seacock closed/motor on-off/hose on-off? I recently had the motor restored and brought back to like new condition and want to ensure I make no mistakes in flushing the motor in the right order. Thanks in advance.

What this setup does is to flush the seawater side of the system, essentially the heat exchanger built into the exhaust manifold, and the sea water pump. The engine itself is filled with antifreeze coolant just like a car that circulates in a closed system. there should never be a need to "flush" he engine, and a rare need to think about the sea water side, especially if you do not even use the boat in sea water! The connection you see is usually used to suck antifreeze into the sea water side for winter storage. There are other threads on the procedure.

Thank you for the information, it is helpful. However, my diesel mechanics that worked on the motor and did the rebuild advised that I flush via this order:

First close seacock and connect garden hose.

Then start engine.

Immediately turn on water on garden hose.

Run for three minutes.

Turn off garden hose.

Immediately Shut down engine.

When you plan to use the boat, make sure turn open seacock.

After use the boat, repeat the flush procedure.

Seems like there’s a conflict in this order compared to the order I am receiving feedback on as well as how other owners are flushing….

Also, I have attached two photos to ensure I know where I am connecting the hose to properly….thank you all in advance for the help…

Running your engine for a short period with the sea cock closed and water off is probably fine from an engine temperature point of view - I'll be honest and admit I have left the dock with my seacock closed before and it takes 3-5 minutes before I got an overheat warning - but running the engine without any water flowing in the impeller is bad, and will absolutely decrease the life expectancy of it. Water provides lubrication and cooling to the spinning rubber blades. Doing it once is probably fine, but doing it on every flush is a bad idea.

I disagree with your mechanic. The whole turn on the engine, running down the dock, don't trip or fall into the water, turn on the water, and hope that the marina hasn't turned it off is just asking for trouble.
