Hello all,
I'm sanitizing my FW tanks and lines.on my R25sc. I want to remove the mesh filter in the little clear plastic dome that's attached to the pump. It looks like the plastic dome unscrews, but I.am having no success with that-- the whole filter unit rotates when I try to unscrew the clear dome . Is there something I'm missing here? I don't have the manual for the pump.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Roger in Portland

You will need to remove the filter housing from the pump. It is held with red plastic clips and “O” rings, which is why it swivels. Release the red clips (pull away from hose) then pull the filter housing away from the pump. If you can also remove the filter housing from the hose it will make things easier. Different years of boats use a different fitting to the hose. Once you get the filter housing in your hand put a towel around the clear plastic cap to protect it and use a channel lock pliers to unscrew it. It is threaded.

If it is like mine you will find black stuff in the screen that is source of some nasty tasting water! Cleaning it helps a lot!

Here is a photo to go with the comments from Red Raven . (Click on photo to enlarge)

Thanks Red Raven and Osprey, I'll have another go at it.

Success! Lots of black nasty-looking stuff and what appears to be white plastic shavings in the screen, but more puzzling was the collection of hemlock needles! I'm not moored near, nor do I fill the tank anywhere near a hemlock tree. I'm always careful to wipe down the deck are near the deck plate before filling, too. I'll continue to keep drinking water in 1 gallon jugs, but the smell seems to be gone from the tank after a couple chlorine flushes.

Thanks again!

The hemlock is there to cover of the taste of the rest! It’s a natural deodorizer! 😛
