I'm sure many PNW Tugnuts are familiar with Friday Harbor... I was there over past weekend and also bumped into Ray... Nudibranch "Dog Islander" and his daughter alongside the burned out restaurant. Geeeesh, what a sight.

Hey, Ray... sorry to have stopped you where all those darn bees/wasps were. 😉

The historic Oyster House on Olympia's waterfront also burned this summer. It is now being demolished, and the owners hope to rebuild. Percival Landing just isn't the same without that icon of the past.

Wasn't there also a fire of some sort on/at Lake Union due to fire works recently ? Then there was the big Gin Palace anchored at Roche Harbor that went up in flames also!

We had a fire at the Edmonds Marina guest dock earlier this year with one of the dock side power pedestals blowing up and shooting into the air due to a boat's poor electrics. The whole guest dock has now been reworked and rewired.

Here's a link to a post from our blog the day of the fire...

I work for one of the businesses in that building (San Juan Safaris)... Downriggers (the restaurant on the top floor of the building) is well known to most boaters who find their way to Friday Harbor.

The first emergency meeting of the Friday Harbor Port Commissioners (that building is owned by the Port of Friday Harbor) was last week - a huge turnout, with unanimous support for rebuilding and getting the same businesses back in that building. The Port Commission was non-committal at that time, but have since come out publicly saying that is the plan. We'll see how it all plays out.

As long as we are recounting Marina/Dock fires, let's not forget the fire at Des Moines Marina (Des Moines, WA) this summer that destroyed a fair piece of covered moorage on J-dock and also damaged and/or destroyed something like 12 boats in the process. That fire started on one of the boats that got destroyed in the fire while the owners had two people working on their boat. Those two people ended up in the hospital for a while with severe burns as a result of the fire. As far as I know, none of the several Ranger Tugs moored at Des Moines were "injured".
