Front window covering ideas for our newly acquired 2016 R25 SC

Hi there, We just picked up a new to us 2016 R25 SC tug. Looking for ideas for the front window shades. Thank you
 
I have an R29 and never had front shades. Never missed them. You might consider using the boat for a while to see if you really want the shades.
 
Not sure if this works on R25SC but on the R25 outboard a windshield shade for a Jeep Cherokee was a perfect fit. We highly recommend having a shade for privacy and heat control.
 
I believe 2016 R25SC should have come from the factory with a canvas snap-on front window screen for use overnight as that model boat has the head in the cabin and not in the Vberth. Our 2014 R27C has that canvas. Are you talking about use overnight? If so, do you not have a canvas that snaps to the outside of the front window?
 
Not answering for OP, but we found it a lot easier to set up the windshield screen from a jeep inside than to hang onto the outside of the boat to snap the canvas cover in place.

But yes, at least the newer boats come with the canvas cover.

NO we don't have snaps for an out side canvas and yes this is for overnight if we are at the docks.

When we replaced/made the other interior curtains on our 22 R27-OB we also added curtains for the front windows. They use the same snaps as the other windows and are very easy to put up and take down, especially for night. I always thought it was a terrible inconvenience to have to go outside, crawl up on the front of the boat to install and take down the exterior factory shade. I only use the exterior shade for extended periods when at our home slip. As you can see in the pics they offer a very clean look and are easy to store when not in use. I can give you some more details if you like...just message me.

My 2016 R-27 came with the canvas snap on the outside windshield screen. However, cruising and fishing in south central Alaska where it is known to rain some, I didn't like the idea of putting the canvas on the outside and dealing with a soggy canvas in the morning. So, I took double sided VELCRO sticky strips and placed them on the canvas and corresponding places around the windshield. When it is bedtime, the canvas screen goes up. I also took a 6'X 8' cheap tarp and cut screens for the skylights which are VELCRO'd in place at night to keep the 'Midnight Sun' from blasting into the cabin. It takes a couple of minutes at night and in the morning to place and remove the screens.
 
Plenty of good advice above. One thing I'll add is that the reason for having a canvas cover that snaps over the outside of the windshield is to stop sunlight/heat coming through. As others have pointed out it is much easier/simpler to use some sort of screen on the inside. The downside of the inside screen is that in direct sun the screen itself heats up and also due to greenhouse effect you get a lot of heat in the cabin. The outside screen is certainly a PITA to put on/take off every day. We added a few snaps on the inside of the windshield so we can choose to use the same screen on outside or inside. Typically we're just using it to darken the cabin and aren't too concerned about the heat effect so use it inside.

Thread 'Cabin Window Reflective Heat Screens'

Summer is around the corner and soon there will be posts about how to make of the most of the air conditioning on our boats. On my 2012 R27 there are only two air conditioning vents and the duct work for the port side vent was partially crushed during assembly of my boat at the factory so I have to make the most of what conditioned air makes it to the cabin.

There are lots of pilots on Tugnuts and I’m sure they’re familiar with my solution to air conditioning happiness— reflective heat screens. They’re used in airplanes on the ground to mitigate cockpit solar heating and to protect...

I have snap-on canvas for OUTSIDE the front windows, but it is a PITA to put up and takedown because one has to get to the bow each put-up/take down iteration. The thread details screens that are put up and taken down from INSIDE the cabin.

A change since I first wrote the post is I made a full-length heat screen for the cabin door to do away with the cabin door canvas that was also a PITA. A disadvantage of having heat screens for EVERY window is when they are all removed for cruising, it is a fairly big bundle to store. I have a system that keeps them in good order and stash them in the cuddy, which is unused while underway.
