Have a RT29, anyone added a privacy curtain on the inside windshield, the wood trim above makes me think it would be easy.

We hang a line across the helm area with suction cups and fold over a sheet or towel. Works great. We use suction cups with hooks for all kinds of stuff around the boat.

The admiral made an inside curtain for the helm windows on our boat. It is easily installed and removed with 4 installed snaps. She made curtains for all the boat windows, she also lined all the curtains for privacy.

If you have a sunbrella cover for the outside of the windshield it is easy to install a few snaps and use it inside. We put it on the outside when it's really sunny so it helps more with keeping the sun out. Also when spending the night in a slip. When we just need it short term we snap it up inside the windshield.

I took the outside canvas cover and installed double sided velcro tabs at 8-10 critical spots on the inside of the window trim and just stick it in place when wanting to darken the cabin or give privacy at a marina. Boating in Alaska, the canvas cover didn't work very well when it rained or drizzled and got the canvas wet. Although this year we have had very little rain in south central Alaska.

We have a R27-OB. We added an interior windshield privacy curtain to match curtains on port / starboard windows. Purchased material from Richard in Parts, added SS snaps for easy setup. We also added a curtain with track at the range / oven window to eliminate need to put up exterior canvas for privacy.

We have an RT 29s and added a windshield sun screen. Using the supplied windshield canvas as a pattern, we made a sunscreen to match the ceiling sun shades the factory provide. During daylight, it provides a lot of privacy as well - at night, not so much.

On YOLO (RT-27), the canvas provided by RT was meant to go on the outside. Too much of a PITA and not real happy about pulling up the wiper blades every time to get it in the right place.

I brought the canvas inside and installed matching snaps along the top wood trim and it works just fine. And definitely keeps the boat cooler when the sun is baking the windshield.

We've been thinking about doing the exactly same thing with our R29. While I like the idea of using the outside canvas inside, I think a tracked curtain on the inside would be an even more convenient solution and look great, as well. In the heat of the summer on the Chesapeake, it would be nice to be able to simply pull a curtain closed whenever the boat is not underway, not to mention evening privacy.

Will let you know if/when we actually get the project done and please do the same!

Hello
Is there a website that I can go to for the shades.

Thanks

We installed a small boat cleat on the port n starboard wood trim n then ran a line from one to the other. We drape a piece of fabric over the line to block out the sun and or for privacy. When docked we use the factory window cover.

I didn't like the idea of not being able to look out the windshield from the inside with the canvas snapped in place on the outside, nor did I ever like the idea of always having to go outside to install/remove the front curtain either.

I stitched 4 square curtains from regular fabric, stitched velcro strips into them, and taped velco strips on the inside upper edge of the windows.

Much easier putting the shades up from the inside and allows me to cover 1 or all 4 of my windows as desired - and I can pull back individual curtain and look out when necessary.

I ordered the same curtain material from RT, measured and had curtains made locally, got a flexible curtain rod online that mounted inside the windshield. Works great. I can close the dock side for a little more privacy and still have daylight, and close both sides at night for complete privacy. Closing both sides on a sunny day really helps reduce interior heat. After pondering how to open/close the curtains, I got a stick from Ace Hardware and just reach up to do the job. Gotta love the easy solutions 😉

I put up two tiny hook screws in the outer corners and one in the center on the wood above the front windows. Got some opaque fabric white on the outside and black on the inside. Sewed loops of cord in the upper corners and middle to hang on the hooks. Two loops on the bottom with bra hooks connect to wire loops on the aft hatch screws. They wrap the shade around the bottom of the windows. Makes the V-berth nice and dark despite marina floodlights.

Our R27 came (used) with side curtains on all the side windows on siding tracks, and a matching inside front window cover that has 5 snaps that are at the top, one on each end and over each window post. Keeps the Sun off the wood and seat covers at the Club Moorage, and for privacy at a dock or raft up.

We use Snads to attach our inside screen

We got two sets of these (two to a set). Three for the inside of the windshield and one for the head. Easy to deploy and occupy almost no space when stowed. They also some with some kinda cool graphics. Wish I could post a photo, but that element of this forum has been absent FOREVER.

Not wanting to put outside cover on in the rain, we made an inside curtain the same shape as the windshield (inside dash is not symmetrical) and put five snaps on curtain and on underside of wood overhead; works great. Did the same for the clear window in our rear center panel of the our camper top curtains on the cockpit and used small sewn on hooks for that.
