Hi, I have an R 23 diesel. The fuel fill is only 1.5 inches in diameter. And there is no vent externally, so it is very difficult to fill the tank. The diesel overflows very quickly and easily. Has anyone installed a 1.75 inch fuel fill?
I fill up our 2014 R27 at full speed until I hear the first gurgle out the vent and stop immediately. I use the Garmin flow meter data (look at the tank level in advance) to anticipate when to slow down. I start to listen very carefully when near 10% full as the calibration of the Garmin can be off by up to 10%. (In my case it is always around 8% low. Meaning the gurgle comes 8% early. Nice, I got better mileage than I expected!) Using this method I never have had an overflow (though I have overflowed , by not paying attention, my bad!). I do have to be quiet and listen and stop immediately but can go full speed until then. With diesel fuel the normal auto stop on the pump trigger does not work due to low fumes and foaming
