Took Tugly in for her 50 hour check-up today. Valves, clamps, hoses, belts, filters checked. Mechanic called me mid-morning stating that there was no fuel filter in the line from the tank to the engine. He also said the small filter mounted on the engine was really clogged and showed signs of water. Another lesson learned, check the filter very often. Installed a Racor 120 series on the front wall of the aft starboard seat. Neat and easy job with the filter very accessible and easy to check. Picture in my "Mechanical Changes" album.

I like your idea of the additional fuel filter and the location that you installed it in. Did you install the 120AP or the 120AS in your boat?

Thank you,

Dan

On our older R21's we did not install this primary fuel filter. Yanmar to this day does not require one so we didn't install one. When we became NMMA and CE Certified then we had to add one "without" a clear plastic bowl on the bottom of the filter because the Europeans are worried about it breaking. So Long story short here are a couple pictures of where we locate our primary fuel filter with a fuel shutoff valve on the tank. We currently install the Racor model 110A.(10 micron)

Question. Mechanic installed a Racor 120R with the clear bowl and S3240 cartridge. Racor web site says that S3240 is a gasoline filter and I should have an R12 cartridge. Both are 10 micron. Is there a difference between a diesel and gasoline cartridge?

I have put a call into our Racor guy here locally. The big difference I can see is the rating for how much fuel flows through it. Here are the different specs I found.

After speaking with our Racor Rep. he stated that this filter will work fine for your application. It does state that it is for Gasoline only, and it is not UL rated for CE compliance. Other then those reasons that is why we cant use it.

Thank you very much for the legwork. I will use the S3240 and switch to the R12 at next filter change.
